The forum that I use regularly for exotic plant chat, is hosted by EZBoard which has become something of a contradictory name in recent times. We are what they term a 'gold community' and pay for the privelige of having no pop-up adverts etc. Recently the whole EZboard site was hacked and we lost a load of old postings. Added to this the intermittent slow server speeds they seem to encounter and it's pretty disappointing.
Therefore we are looking to change if possible. What we are looking for is a boardhost that has the following...

1. customisable to our layout which is a black background with a .jpg banner.
2. cheaper than ezboard - I'm not sure what it costs of the top of my head.
3. All data stored by board host on their server.

Any of those in the know (Trig, Col?) have any suggestions or recommendations?

Cheers

Mark

This board is free, but you can pay to upgrade, can't remember how much it was but wasn't that bad (have a look at their site for full details)

http://www.invisionboard.com/

You can add skins to do what you want

Have a look at

http://www.talkinghorses.co.uk/home.php

Go to my controls

scroll down

Click skin & languages

Board skin should have about 6 options and there are 100's more you can install

Regarding hosting I can put you in touch with someone who this board is with, and I think most people will agree since I changed just before Christmas there has been hardly any downtime at all, and this is a busy board. The control panel you get with this hosting also does auto install of this board

Actually just checked cost

Yearly license $69.95
Perpetual license $185.00

but you can run it completely free, this is!

the cheapest ezboard price seems to be $54 but you are limited to 10000 page views a month for that

oh yeah, forgot to mention you will have to pay for the hosting too but the advantage of that over ezboard is you can use it for email (like I have *@talkinghorses.co.uk where the * is anything) and website hosting, whatever

With regard to the hosting:

I host all of my websites with a company called:

http://www.ukwebsolutionsdirect.co.uk/

I have been with them years, hardly a minutes downtime, and on the one occasion I had to speak to customer services they were extremely helpful and approachable.

Their hosting is pretty feature packed, but nice and simple to use through their control panel, and you will be pushed to beat their prices.

I think they have some auto-install scripts for Bulletin Boards aswell.
