Just watched the tv programme countdowning the best Bond themes.

I'm disappointed but not surprised that my personal favourite didn't make the top 10, let alone the top 3.

Most Bond themes are good, a few are outstanding and a few are rubbish.

But ever since I saw it, the one that I thought best captured the plot, the character of the lead and the atmosphere was Chris Cornell's theme to 'Casino Royale', You Know My Name.

What's your all-time favourite Bond theme?

Coincidentally at 5am this morning (yes I was up at 5am on New Years Day ) on local radio there was a programme about failed Bond songs which never made it as the final choice for a film. Shirley Bassey was originally going to record the song for Thunderball but kept pronouncing the word "bang" as "bam" and eventually Cubby Broccoli got fed up as he didn't think the song was serious enough and changed it at the last moment for a Tom Jones version. Bassey tried to obtain a lawsuit to stop the film being released but withdrew it and was advised to sue for damages instead. There was some sort of private deal done in terms of compensation. It was another six years before another of her songs was chosen for a Bond film.
