Brentford Hope - Remember him? The talk of the heath after his single run as a 2yo at Newmarket and appeared in many a “Horses to Follow” publication as a Classic contender. Didn’t run the next season until July and was a disappointing favourite in a couple of Class 5s after which he paid the price by losing his manhood.
That seemed to make a difference and he ran quite respectably in Class 2 and 3 races, with the odd Class 1 thrown in, winning a couple of times from a dozen tries. Never got anywhere near that early promise though and tried over hurdles this season finishing second in two maiden/novice races and second again on his debut handicap.
Then to today where he won the maiden hurdle very convincingly, albeit Class 4. Maybe, just maybe, he’s at last going to come into his own
