Some cracking prospects in Brightwells this evening. I could do some damage with half a million quid!! Simonsig's brother for sale.

Cracking horse Oran - the Presenting half-brother will be in the Derby Sale in June btw if you are putting another syndicate together and have a few quid spare ;)

He'll be close up there Miesque - him and Present Lodger is the other I've heard about who's meant to be very very decent indeed.

West O'Rye picked up a knock so doesn't go and as anyone reading the pointing thread will know (or the bets for today thread) I wouldn't put anyone off buying Tiqris - looks a horse of considerable potential.

Ha ha, I think I would pass on a Presenting, although we have on.

Lot 27 Edmund Kean for me. HAve someone looking at him today but think he will go for too much. Adamstown another that should get plenty. Its a very decent sale.

It is - there'll be some nice horses in next months too :)

Interesting one Edmund Kean - was left clear by Butney Rock who's since been a well beaten odds-on favourite behind Simarthur at Loughanmore.

The third was subsequently second to Ballycool (another horse in the sale I like). The fourth finished a close third to Simarthur (Simonsig's brother) with Butney Rock behind, so maybe Butney Rock ran below par that day. He was 4/5 fav so obviously expected to do well. What I like about Edmund Kean is that he's an old vic winner on soft ground so should improve on better, comes from a stable which don't kill their horses and has an Aga Khan black type flat pedigree on the dams side with a few of the relatvies doing well over jumps (Balapour in second dam, Bukhari in thrid dam). Interestingly, Colm only picked two out of the sales, and this was one of them!! Great minds......

Fair enough Oran - I have to say I only checked Butney Rock's form out.

Hopefully Colm can pick up something nice in there :)

Tiqris not a bit on the small side Martin??

He's not massive but he's only a 4yo and has shown plenty of speed so far - could be a useful 2m 5fish Novice Hurdler next season.

If anything his size will be what keeps his price down and as I've been discussing with his trainer on a p2p forum elsewhere I doubt that anyone was bothered about his Maiden win at Whitfield (sadly) and if he were to make 60k or so then you can guarantee that 50k of it is due to the positioned he filled on Saturday. I remember not so long ago Noel Wilson buying one for 100k+ out of a bumper, the horses name escapes me but it's not done anything since he bought it.

Present Lodger has always been very highly thought of( I know the breeders and the dam's family), and I was told that two fairly large offers were made for him before he was two, so I am surprised they are selling him and doubt they will really make any money back given what they paid for him. Having said that I hope he does and goes on to better things as I have the half sister and am hoping to breed from her.

I've heard respected judges talking of 150k+ for Present Lodger - no idea what they paid for him but apparently Cashman thinks he's possibly the best he's had (bit of the AP O'Briens there though maybe).

Yes have heard similar regarding the best thay have had which is why I am surprised they are selling. They paid €32k for him if I remember correctly. The 3 year is thought to be as good.

Tom Lacey (Tiqris trainer) just sold Avidius Cassius to Mags O'Toole for 85,000 - he won a Maiden at Whitwick Manor by a head back in February, he beat the ex-Irish Minella Break who's been beaten since (also placed in all 4 of his Irish P2P starts), the race was the fastest of two divisions of the race but a second slower than the Mares Maiden (won by 30 lengths). As a 4yo against his elders Avidius Cassius will have been getting lumps of weight from his rival (a stone or more) and is rated inferior to both Tiqris and West O'Rye by McKenzie and Harris.

Cheers GG - I know they paid £31,000 for Tiqris so they'd be hoping to get that plus a lot more I'd imagine for him.

I know he's just netted £575K by winning the Grand National, but to fork out £310K for a Carlisle bumper winner??.......hmmm.

Have to say I was a bit disappointed PL went for 'only' £200k. I thought he would go for more given some of the bids which had already gone through for others. Hopefully he will get a chance with a trainer who knows what they are doing and he won't be a disappointment for that money.

Think Tom Malone and Michael Scudamore bought him so I'd imagine he'll join the latter - they bought a few big priced horses at this sale. Given that he paid £250,000+ for Saphir River last November I'd imagine it's for the same owner (a sports agent).
