Not sure how much activity we will get here but we should track some of these UK novices.

I haven't seen a really exciting chaser yet but two novice hurdlers have my attention

Jeriko Du Reponet - some judges are more impressed than me but respected

Captain Teague - think he will need 3m to win a Cheltenham race this season

Looks very thin gruel, I’m afraid, which doesn’t bode well for the future. I did have hopes for JPR One, but the door to the top table dining room has been slammed in his face.

Hermes Allen, maybe.

Burdett Road Triumph Hurdle is pretty obvious but a couple of things bother me.

He was a nearly horse on the flat and ws beaten too many times for my liking.

The other worry is this horse of WPM's Storm Heart. I've seen some horses attract money in my time but ina matter of minutes 150k came for him and he ended up 2/5 from 4/5 earlier in the day. He looks very special

I was quite surprised Jeriko Du Reponet was so short against Secret Squirrel but despite him running out of his skin Jeriko Du Reponet won very very easily. Definitely a horse going places.

We haven't heard the last of Willmount it seemed like he was travelling all over them until he took a heafty bump jumping a hurdle on the far side and lost a shoe then he started back peddling suddenly.
He probably been feeling something that made him go out like a light but this is a very good horse who'll be back,

When it comes to hefty bets from the Mullins yard Luke is the man.

Iroko entered in the Arkle and Turners today. So I guess he must be recovering well from the injury?

Iroko entered in the Arkle and Turners today. So I guess he must be recovering well from the injury?

He’s been reintroduced in the betting for both
25/1 for the Arkle and 16/1 for the Turners

From the RP

The surprise among the fields for the Arkle and Turners entries was Iroko, who had been ruled out for the season with a foot injury in November. That setback came shortly after last season's Martin Pipe winner posted a flawless performance on his chase debut at Warwick.

Last season's Martin Pipe winner Iroko could yet make it to the Cheltenham Festival, with joint-trainer Oliver Greenall revealing the six-year-old had recovered quicker than expected from a foot injury previously thought to have ruled him out for the season.

Iroko gave Greenall and his training partner Josh Guerriero the highest-profile win of their careers with a length-and-a-half success in the conditional jockeys' handicap hurdle named after the legendary trainer at last year's festival, and then finished third in Grade 1 company at Aintree.

He started this season with an authoritative three-and-a-quarter-length success at Warwick on his chasing debut, after which he was cut to 10-1 for the Turners and Brown Advisory at this year's meeting. However, it was announced in November an injury to the sole of his foot had ruled him out for the season.

On Tuesday he was a surprise entry for the Arkle, for which he is a best-priced 25-1, and Turners, for which he is a 16-1 chance. Speaking to the Racing Post on Wednesday while on holiday, Greenall said that while the entry was tentative the exciting chaser was back in work.

"He seems to be doing well, better than expected," he explained. "He's back in work and we'll see how we go, it's still not a definite we'll get to Cheltenham but we put him in just in case. If he does get there he'll probably have to go straight to Cheltenham, we can't get a run into him as there aren't many suitable races.

"We might just have to give him a good racecourse gallop and go straight there. But we're just playing it by ear."

He is JP McManus's only entry in the Arkle on day one over two miles, while the owner also has 12-1 shot Fact To File and 14-1 chance Corbetts Cross in the Turners on day three over two and a half miles. Fact To File and Corbetts Cross are a shorter price in ante-post lists for the Brown Advisory on day two.

Iroko won over two miles and four and a half furlongs at last year's festival before stepping up in trip at Aintree and had been thought of as a Brown Advisory contender by bookmakers after his Warwick win, but Greenall said at the time he would look to keep the him to two and a half miles this season and William Hill, who offer the non-runner, no bet guarantee, make him just a 6-1 shot for the Turners in March.

I'm looking forward to the Scilly Isles on Saturday after today's confirmations.
Corbett's Cross entered up, (not sure how likely he is to run though), along with Hermes Allen, Le Patron, and Djelo to name a few.

Up to now I'm so wanting Le Patron in Plate Handicap at the festival.

I'm not sure how this race will affect stuff. He's not in the Arkle anymore, and only holds a Turners entry now, so I get the feeling connections think he may improve again over two and a half miles.

Just looking through yesterday's results and replays, I think the Pendil form might be quite strong - it often is.

The closing sectionals looks on the fast side and I'm presuming the 'par' for Kempton might be not far off 110%.

The Pendil finish was marginally faster than the RP Chase one but Golden Son's over the Pendil CD was a bit faster.

Hands up, I'd presumed that, because the fav in the later race opened up a lead in front before weakening in the straight, the pace must have been over-fast but unless the ground was deteriorating all afternoon sectionals show quite the opposite.

You would reasonably expect the races over the shorter trip to be run quicker than over the longer one. I timed all three races from the same fence, the first in the 2.5m races. A) It's easier to see them jump the fence on the screen than judge when they're passing a point in the distance, and B) it eliminates doubts over when to start the timing. (I'm not claiming credit for this approach; it may have been EC1 who put me on to it.)

Usually between the better novice races and the better handicaps there isn't much difference all the way, even at trips that vary up to half a mile. I actually wondered, watching the RP live, if Al Dancer was just overdoing it slightly in front but I don't think he was.He was still in front and going strongly at the last and the winner was in third or fourth most of the way.

But from that starting point, the Pendil just went further and further in front until the final fence from whence the distance didn't change much.

The RP Chase is usually one of the strongest handicaps of the season and this looked no exception so for the Pendil to have outrun it all the way - and by a long way - bodes very well for the novices. On the other hand, they must have had quite a hard race.

Both races, it should be noted, were miles faster throughout than the later race won by Golden Son, which actually turned into a bit of a sprint and even then didn't close much on the other two races.

I will be treating the Golden Son form with a degree of caution but the other two races look very strong.

Thanks again for that, desert. It’s the sort of thing I’d like to see a lot more of on our site. I do post the Racing Post analysis for the races involving the Jumpers Notebook runners, but I respect the views of those on here much more highly.
