Other than Telewest, are there any other companies who do not have a download limit?

I'm with Wanadoo and have a limit and I have to pay £20 again if upgrading.
I think mine is £24 a month.

£22 for 1mb(6gb per month). I f I want to upgrade to the 2mb service the ba*tards want £20.

NTL are introducing this service it will involve maximums but I doubt the ordinary person on line will be effected but they reckon they will be operating a basic service @ 10 mbts wow!!!!

The first home surfers in the UK to enjoy speeds of up to 10Mb will be ntl’s current 3Mb Broadband customers. ntl will provide them with more speed and greater usage, at no extra cost per month. By the end of this year they will have a connection of up to 10Mb, while their usage allowance will increase from 30GB to 75GB per month.

A 10Mb connection is ideal for those families with more than one PC and for those customers who want to cut the waiting time for content to download. It anticipates the development of the connected home and will encourage the creation of dedicated high speed content.

By the end of 2006, the roll out of this new product portfolio will be complete. There are no plans to change monthly prices. However, some customers will need to upgrade their modem. Further details will be announced at launch.

Ahead of the full roll out of 10Mb services, for those customers who want a taste of the higher speeds, ntl is set to commence a commercial pilot of its innovative flexible bandwidth technology. This new service uses a ‘Turbo Button’ to provide customers with the added flexibility to boost their speed, making a particular task quicker and easier. For example, when downloading a video and image rich presentation.

Even higher speeds to come for cable customers

Moving customers to a 10Mb Broadband service is part of a wider progression towards services with even higher speed and greater bandwidth. ntl’s fibre-rich network means that broadband speeds of between 30Mb and 50Mb are possible through DOCSIS 3.0 (cable) or ADSL 2+ (copper). ntl has the flexibility in its dual local network to offer this type of connection in the future.

ntl’s vision is to deliver this type of connection and associated new services. Moving to a single 10Mb speed makes future increases easier and quicker to deliver.

Currently, an ntl technology trial in Chorleywood is delivering speeds of up to 20Mb to a school, small business and several homes. This level of speed and bandwidth offers the opportunity to enjoy a host of new services. These include high definition TV, 1000 channel global radio, video conferencing amongst friends & family, global gaming, low cost IP telephony, video email, and of course the things people already use broadband for, but at much greater speed.

“Moving 1.5 million customers to a connection of up to 10Mb is a major initiative. However, we have full confidence in our ability to complete this programme in 2006 by leveraging our next generation platform,” continued Simon Duffy. “Anyone signing up to ntl Broadband today can look forward to surfing at 10Mb in the near future. The new products will offer something for all Internet users from the absolute beginner to seasoned veterans.”

shame about their customer service!!! Any problem with your broadband...at least 15 min wait before speaking to anyone.

Thanks, guys. So the answer is no then!! NTL, like Telewest is not available to this person.

Received this from bt this morning

We’ve got some great news about TWO improvements we’re making to your broadband. And don’t worry, they are improvements at NO extra cost!

You’ll be aware that each of our products comes with a usage guideline. This is the amount of data you can send and receive through your broadband connection each month. However, as we don’t want anything to get in the way of your enjoyment of the Internet, we’re making two important improvements to the way usage guidelines work.

A new approach to usage guidelines – to give you more freedom

Although the vast majority of our customers are within the current usage guidelines for their product, some customers have told us that they feel restricted. So we’ve responded.

Our new approach to usage guidelines means you are free to use your broadband without the fear of being limited or charged.

From now on, if you occasionally exceed your monthly usage guideline there will be no need to worry, as you’ll be able to continue using the service as normal for the rest of the month without any restrictions or additional charges.

In fact, as long as you don’t regularly exceed your usage guideline by a large amount, you have no need to worry whatsoever. If you do regularly go over the allowance, we may contact you about moving to a more appropriate product for your needs. However given that the usage guideline for BT Yahoo! Broadband is more than enough for most people on this product, it’s unlikely this will be necessary.

And an increased monthly usage guideline at no extra cost

Additionally, as there are more and more things you can do with a broadband connection, we have decided to increase your usage guideline anyway. This means your monthly usage guideline will be increased from 30GB to 40GB, giving you even more reason to relax and enjoy your broadband.

And you don’t have to do a thing

In order to take advantage of these improvements to your service you don’t need to do a thing. More information and updated Terms and Conditions are available at www.bt.com/broadband/news These changes will come into effect on 15th October 2005.

Just thought we would tell you the good news. Thank you for being a valued customer of BT Yahoo! Broadband.

I'm delighted to tell you that we're increasing the speed of your ntl Broadband service from 300K to 1Mb. That's over three times the speed for the same monthly price! This is part of our ongoing commitment to provide the best choice & value Broadband service in the UK.

You don't have to do anything - we'll automatically upgrade your service by the end of October. Your monthly bill will be changed to show 1Mb, at the same monthly price of £17.99, by the end of December.

To enable us to offer this super-fast service for the same price, we will be introducing a usage allowance of 3GB per month. This is more than enough for the vast majority of our customers - for example, you can still surf the Internet up to 12 hours a day and send 600 emails per week. More information on just how much you can do with this allowance is available at www.ntl.com/broadband

You have absolutely no need to worry - should you ever reach your usage allowance we'll let you know and you will be given a number of options including changing to a different service with a higher usage allowance or choosing to use the service for the remainder of the month at a lower speed.

If you would prefer to keep your current 300K service with a 30GB monthly allowance go to www.ntlworld.com/optout before the 21st October to opt-out of the 1Mb service upgrade. You will need to let us know your name, home address, and billing ID which is 50400544. We will fulfil your opt-out request during the month of November.

I suddenly remembered this morning a way of avoiding the £20 fee :D When we moved house last year I called Wanadoo to arrange for my service to disconnected and then reconnected at the new house. The nice young chap on the phone said that there was a charge for that, but if I chose to cancel my original package after a few minutes he'd be able to sign me up as a brand new customer at no charge at all  The only problem was I'd have to change my email address but as I never used that one anyway it didn't matter to me :)
