I'm finding this hard too find through google so maybe a dumb question.

Can you get a 2nd extension in your house for one broadband line and use the two extensions at the same time?

Why would you need a second extension for broadband when you can have both your broadband and phone on one?

What exactly would I need with a wireless router?

I have a laptop which has wireless capability (though I have connected wirelessly) stuck to a modem at the moment. Presumably I will need some class of wireless card for the new desktop computer also?

Does the wirelss router just connect into the existing modem or does some pissing about need to be done?

A router would be the easiest way to do this (wired or wireless), you can buy a router seprately and plug your existing broadband modem in to it or just buy a combined modem/router (probably easier)

Thanking you all. I knew it was a dumb question. Looks easy now. Any performance issues with wireless? I don't want a connection dropped while I'm rubbing my hands together looking at a pair of aces pre flop with all-in to call.

PCI wireless cards for desktops are really cheap, so no reason not to go wireless these days. Just make sure you have the network correctly secured - all of the so called computer science students living in our area haven't secured any of their networks so we've been hijacking their internet connections to download 24 :D

Mel - connecting a router is a piece of cake. Trust me - I'm blonde yet I managed to connect mine up after an all-day session down the local!
