Mrs Mo and I are coming to the big smoke in May (for The Philadelphia Story at the Old Vic).

I've got a good idea where the theatre is, etc. but I'd appreciate any local insight into good, affordable eateries in the vicinity of the OV - pre-theatre menus, etc.

I'd be grateful for any help.

Thanks in advance.

There are a number of restaurants on The Cut itself. The Turkish restaurant is good , Meson Don Felipe a tapas bar has gone downhill recently . There is the original Livebait but that is very much a chain now and a foodie pub The Anchor and Hope which Coren raved about in the times but I have never been there. There is also the Fire Station just over the road but that is a bit madly busy and I have no idea what the food is like but others have liked it .

The name of the Turkish Restaurant is Tas. If you're looking for overseas cuisine, also within a couple of minutes walk are Baltic (Eastern European) and Cubana (Latin American).

It's a pity that the old pie, mash and eels shop in The Cut is long closed - now there would be a bit of exotic eating!

Livebait is a rip-off. Meson don Felipe was good last time I was there (about 18 months ago) it is always packed though and you may not get in (pretty sure they don't take bookings). If I were you I would get there good and early and you will get in. It is not expensive and if you like tapas you will do well.

Meson don Felipe certainly take bookings at lunchtime as we always go before the rugby as my dad is addicted to the place and is mates with the manager. They are open from lunchtime onwards I think.

I think they do take evening bookings too .

BTB is right about Tas . The food is really good value and not expensive I imagine they do pre theatre menus.

Livebait is a shadow of its former self
