On saturday at ascot there is 5he betfair hurdle in which jollys cracked it is top weight.
The weights have gone up 13lb which means jollys cracked it is rated 160 instead of 147.
Man of plenty 145 instead of 132 etc.
So why bother raising the weights.basically they have risen the ratings not the weigh5s.
Does anyone know why.

What ?

They haven't moved the ratings.

Top rated horse in the contest frames the weights. Jolly's is rated 147 the highest left in so gets top weight. The weights then work down from there. I.e 147 cariies 11-12 146 carries 11-11 and so on and so on.

The reason for the hike in weights is so there aren't a pile of horses out of the handicap. As minimum weight carries 10 stone.

I.e if at the beggining of the week there were 20 horses rated higher than jolly's cracked it lets say the highest rated was 173 carrying 11-12 then JCI would be set to carry 10 stone. If all those horses above JC withdrew at the 48hour stage and we left JCI on ten stone all the horse rated underneath and lower than JCI who now get to run would be running would run out of the handicap proper because they'd carry the minimum weight of 10 stone the same as JCI. Top rated horse sets the weights that doesn't mean he's rated higher because he carries more.

Just as it goes I've been working on that race and think Jolly's cracked it is a terrible Favourite.

My Shortlist

Mohaayed- Welsh Champion hurdle form working out really well. Ground was too fast and raced wide in the greatwood. Pieces on, bridget off, harry on, and ground will be soft enough big player at 25's with laddies (boost to 28/1)
Backed him and used him in soem fun e/w doubles with Double Shuffle + Coneygree 33/1 KG and Dawsons City Welsh Nash 50/1.

Others on the shortlist Mr Antolini, Western Ryder, Neitchse and possibly Flying tiger but he's becoming one who's had too many chances but looks so bleeding well handicapped what do you do with him ?

I real8se that the weights go up b3cause the topweights came out,the confusion on my part was on the sporting life racecards where they have added the 13lb on to the OR.
I thought man of plenty had gone up 18lb for winning last time, which confused me cos his new mark is 132.
The bha answered my question wh8ch 2as good of them.
The sporting life have made me feel like a idiot.

Interesting. I was at Cheltenham on County Hurdle or Gold Cup day 2017, fancied Mohaayed off bottom weight, finished 7th or so, but with another year in 2018 he hacked up. Your good self tipped him up seven moths beforehand haha.

Nietzche was really impressive in the Greatwood, I loved the positive ride Danny gave him. I'm happy to back him, to see if he can do it again, regardless or whether he does (or doesn't) back that performance up on Saturday.

I doubt the handicapper has caught up with him: Moreover a case of whether he has enough experience, or is tough enough to do the double.
