Can you get by with just a mobi?

I'm engaged in one of my periodic battles with the unwanted, the unused, and the unnecessary at present - hence four large piles of 'stuff' awaiting other homes! Just wondering - does anyone get by with just a mobi, and now find their landline of no real use? I'm thinking that with the few amount of calls I get, I could use one or the other, but do realise that the mobi has distinct advantages when travelling, even just going out and not missing calls. I still have Luddite tendencies, which I'll have to get over, and don't want to feel a slave to the machine. But, if anyone reckons it's more useful to have a mobi than both (esp. when I don't suppose I get/make more than three calls a day), then I'd opt for the mobile one and can the landline.

Thanks for any input!

Get yourself a mobile broadband dongle as part of your contract - should be able to do anything your normal broadband can and you can take it with you anywhere.

Don't do this if you download a lot of large files and use a lot of bandwidth as it will cost you an absolute fortune.

If you get your internet via cable then no, there's probably no good reason to pay for line rental if your usage is so low. It's pretty common.

I use mobile BB as my permanant connection but I don't recommend it, I started off with three which was ok for the first few weeks but then went dramaticly down hill after that, forget about the coverage they tell you as we are supposedly in an excellent coverage area but its terrible,

Last week we went out & got a Virgin one & so far its not bad, apparently they do share the receivers/masts(?) with three yet the virgin one is much better,

I do very little in the way of downloading (apart from the odd smurf song) & 3GB is more than ample for my needs, roll on renovating to be finished & we can get a proper BB connection!

My sister has been using a pay-as-you-go mobile for the last 3 years. Saves herself quite a bit (single mum), particularly as so many do deals on texting.

Also some helpline phonelines, gas/electric/TV/insurance that sort of thing, it costs a fortune to ring from mobiles. im desperate to get a landline but its going to be over £100 just to get connected which my landlord won't fork out for so i won't as i'm not going to be there much longer.

Oh, lots of interesting things I hadn't thought about - esp. those LE mentions! Hmmm... might just stay as I am, then - the mobi's primarily to alert Lingfield if I'm held up in traffic, which isn't often! Thanks, everyone, some good stuff to mull.

I've been getting by with just a mobile for a few months - the only problem is the "freephone" numbers, can get around the bookmakers ones by using the "International Clients" number which is usually 0208... so would count in any free minutes allocation.
