Cashew nuts must surely be the King of nuts? With Pistachios losing out due to their general intractability. What does everyone else think?

Depends on the brand. Some of them (M&S in particular) can end up getting a nasty oily taste. I like the raw ones.

The Pistachios are worth the effort if you are prepared to throw the ones away that look difficult to open.

However (shelled) Brazil nuts are my favourite and are responsible for Tesco Finest Meusili being my breakfast cereal of choice at the moment due to their abundant presence.

Hmmm.....it's a toughone between cashews & pistachios....pistachios are well worth the extra effort, imho!!

I'm a fan of pinenuts too....lovely. Hmmm...getting hungry now, haven't eaten yet today & got to wait another 20 mins for dinner....

Cashews for me as well, closely followed by pistachios. So annoying when you get an uncracked one though. I remember being in Santorini about 20 years ago when it was first opening up to tourists. There was an old lady sat on the side of the street every day with two sacks. One was full of uncracked pistachios and she was picking out every one in turn, cracking it and putting it in the other sack.

None of you have mentioned the best ones yet, Macadamia nuts. Highly toxic to dogs though, so mine are stashed away.

you a squirrel griffin? :P  I wont tell you... where mine are? :o
Well if you're anything like me, your nuts will be in a cupboard :P

Aha, a lady with exquisite taste: Griffin. The macadamia is THE Emperor of Nutdom, pistachios are pretenders to the crown, while cashews, though esteemed, are but mere courtiers.

Brazils, hazelnuts, pecans and almonds are hard-working officials, keeping Nutdom in the public eye at many levels. The multi-tasking peanuts are also Nutdom's discreet cocktail waiters, hovering with shaken dry Martinis to hand...

While Pine Kernals and Pumpkin Seeds have been interesting me lately, my favourite nuts remain Richard and Judy.

Look, this is a pure nut topic. If you want to talk seeds, start a Best Seeds I Have Eaten topic, for the seed-eaters.

I suppose we should include coconuts? Especially when eaten in lovely big chunks straight from the shell. Yummy!
