"Casino Royale" Teaser Trailer

I wonder if Tom Cruise was ever considered for the role? Having watched MI-2 tonight, and seeing MI-3's on its way, although he's a wee bit undertall, he's a darn good-looking chap who looks credible in an action movie. I know he hasn't got an English accent, but that didn't stop Connery.

Tom Cruise is, too, Brian - even Alan Ladd was 5' 5"! Simmo - is that so? Which book says so - I missed that in my misspent youth! Well, in that case, let's have Denzel Washington! :)

Bond isn't English - he's half Scottish/half Swiss.
Indeed he is. He's also more than 5ft 3in tall.

Daniel Craig is only the second Englishman out of the six to have played Bond in the 45 years of the Eon Productions franchise.

Not counting David Niven then Brian? I wonder why?

Kri - I can't remember which book mentions it specifically - probably several of them. Seem to recall his mother being mentioned in On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

I didn't see much of Craig in the trailer, or much of anything other than some high kicks and Judi Dench. However, I like Craig in what I've seen of him on the telly, but he just seems to be too physical, too tough-looking, for the dual personality of Bond - action hero and suave socialiser. Also, he has a habit of tightening his lips which, far from making him look angry, makes him look like a 3 y.o. in a strop.

Well, topically, Bond's full background is given in the first book of the series "Casino Royale". It is referred to at times in later books.

Yes indeed. A member of my family who does a bit of film crit as part of his job referred to Craig's "constant pouting at the camera".

Please note - The Eon Productions franchise
I did notice the tightness of your qualification. I wondered if you had deliberately missed out Casino Royale (1967) because it was shit.

Not to mention the US Bond programme which was made for television in the late 50's (which I haven't seen).

My son could succeed on Mastermind on the books and films of Bond and there has been a sort of back-generational spin-off.

The first portrayal of Bond was in that American TV one-off play based on "Casino Royale" in 1954 when the character became Jimmy Bond, an American secret agent. Barry Nelson played the part. "Blockbusters" host Bob Holness portrayed James Bond in a 1956 South African radio adaptation of "Moonraker" and, as you have mentioned, David Niven was Sir James Bond in Charles Feldman's "unofficial" film of "Casino Royal"in 1967. In that film Peter Sellers, Woody Allen and Terence Young were also James Bond.

One of the unfunniest comedies of all time, it is best erased from the memory.

How about organising a Bond quiz then Rasputin?

I wouldn't claim to be in a Mastermind league, but I do have a fair amount of utterly useless Bond trivia stored away. It would be nice to put it to some use.
