High winds have put the meeting in doubt.

Another example of racing attempting to shoot itself in the foot.

Runners for the first were down at the start before someone thought that there might be a problem.

It seems that Harvey Smith had walked the course on arrival and he had doubts about racing going ahead in such a strong wind................seems there are very strong gusts which would prove very problematical.

Catterick has an unfortunate track record in this regard.

In 1962 (I think), 7 horses were killed in one day during a meeting when gale force winds literally blew runners off their feet.

Yet again, another meeting abandoned at the last moment with financial implications for owners' costs.
As the jocks had weighed out I presume they get paid - but who pays them??
Usually owners and trianers... all most unfortunate

That's true - maybe they wouldn't have let them go down to 'test the wind' if the first race hadn't been an Amateurs'! Unfortunate for the pros tho who had spent petrol money to get there tho... but gusting winds like that can come up with little warning

It was a pro am although there was only one pro/conditional Carey Williamson due to ride in the race.
The rest were amateurs.
