Anyone notice when horses are given a change in tactics? I normally find it a great guide on the flat, a horse may have been held up running 4 solid races back to back going up 14+ lb.
You'll soon find the tipping point when a hold up tactic doesn't work and horse run below form, you'll start to see a pattern where the horse will now chase the lead, it may even be for the next four-five runs.
The difficult part is guessing when it will go back to being held up, normally going against your preferred style is enough to drop 10lbs where you can get the horse back competitively, so go back 8-12lbs from today's mark and see if today's weight could give it any advantage, if yes, take the chance.
