Is evidently Epsom and Ewell, and this announced on the very day I put my house on the market..... in Ewell. Let's hope lots of people watched the programme tonight, and it adds another 10% to the value of my property! B) That way I can afford a dream home in the countryside like Archie. :)

The worst place to live in Britain for anyone interested was Hull! I can't say I am surprised, as having passed through it on the way to the ferry one year, I have to say, it was a pretty grim looking place, saying that it was raining, and no where looks it's best in the rain.

I have to add that Lord Hartigan lives very close by to Epsom/ Ewell so he is going to be cock a hoop when he finds out! B)

I thought you'd have a big grin on your face if you were watching, Kathy! Lord Harters has long thought it God's own manorial estate, so I imagine that merely confirms what he believes.

Krizon, remember, his place of residence is merely next door to Ewell though! :P

(I bet this will get Lord Hartigan back into the internet cafe for a response!)

Have to agree about Hull, went to Beverley races this year and stayed in Hull . . . . . the arse hole of the world.

If it's that good a place to live, why do you want to move away?

Relkeel, it's a house I inherited. As much as I like the area, I have no real desire to live there - unless I can't sell it, in which case... .who knows?

Never been to Hull, but judging by the songs their football teams fans were singing at the QPR supporters on saturday (Bombing related apparently) i can well imagine the place being on a par and even worse than places near me like Burnley and Wigan (both of which suffer from populations that are largely in-bred)

I liked Hull when I went there. I used to go every weekend as my then girlfriend was studying there. Didn't see much of the city though...

 I had heard that you were a swot - no doubt you spent most of your time conjugating French irregular verbs together

And yet isn't there a good university in Hull? I remember in Blackadder Stephen Fry told the German spy "You made one fatal mistake Sir. You said there were 3 great universities in England - Oxford, Cambridge & Hull. The fact is though, every true Englishman knows that Oxford is an absolute dump.".

Also in Hull's defence they evidently have some very cheap housing Relkeel. The programme also said they have the biggest proportion of overweight people and the most fish and chip shops. Do you think the two things (fat people and fish and chip shops) are in any way connected?

Hmm... possibly, but there's also the connection to chocolate, fizzy drinks, non-fizzy drinks, alcoholic drinks, pies, sausage rolls, crisps, croissants, cakes, biscuits, candy, desserts, ice cream, pizzas, sandwiches, and pasta smothered in creamy sauces. Well, at least there is in my case.

Sorry (and even though I was born there) but how can anywhere in Surrey be the best place to live???

Surburbia rules - ugh..!

Hull is the largest city in Europe never to have had a football team play in its country's top division. Fact. (the only one I know about Hull, except that they beat London 4-0 in a game once.

Songsheet, I was quite surprised too. I think the voting was based on the social side, crime, schooling, easy access to motorways etc etc. From that point of view I can understand it. I met up with an Estate Agent yesterday in Ewell and he said they had had quite a good response for people looking for properties in the area. But then who believes estate agents anyway.

Epsom and Ewell is particularly pretty in places, but give me "proper countryside" any day of the week.

Until any of you have the good fortune to stay in Hull and get to know the place and its people your comments are worthless.

Of course I am. :D
