I'm making a desperate attempt to get back into the jumping game, but feel like I'm off another planet at the moment.

Looking at the stayers hurdle at Aintree and looking at Lovcen (5.4) and Ely Brown (3.0).

I'm tempted by the former at the price but can anyone tell me about the 10lb claimer, before I do my dough ?

Cheers

Doesn't appear exactly incompetent

2013-14 3 14 21% 1 1 0 £6,862 £9,173 +92.83
2012-13 1 3 33% 0 0 0 £1,712 £1,712 +7.00

Thanks DG.

Those figures look decent, but those wins were NH flat x2, a Hunter Chase and an amateur h/cap hurdle, which was nearly two years ago. I accept he won't have much experience with a 10lb claim, but is not being chucked in at the deep end ?

Longsdon used Woods to good effect in the 2011 season but the last two, the influence of his use of claiming jocks is pretty poor: 1/31=3%. Filter that figure down to odds up to 7/2 does not really look great: 1/12. That win was Ely Brown in last years race with Woods claiming 5lb.

He may well be the new Oisin Murphy over jumps, but I've still got a big doubt about him in this race, unless anyone has watched him. Sods law he will hose up and rack up a run of hurdles wins, but the trainer looks to have stuck with Fehily this season.

I don't think there's much between Lovcen and Ely Brown, but 10lb could be a significant factor. However, I've backed both @ 5.7 & 3.0, with the stake on EB simply a saver.

Useful addition to the yard. Only just turned 17 so you won't see him ride too often this season. Now lost his 10lb claim as well. Ridden quite a few ptp winners and the hunter chase winner was 100-1 at the Cheltenham May meeting.

The beast he won on at Cheltenham won a point when Charlie rode as well, but looked nearly useless under other riders (hence the SP). He looks decent, and certainly doesn't lack confidence, or admirers. Would be more concerned about him keeping his feet on the ground than about his ability.
