Thought I'd start this with the race fast approaching.

5-2 What A Friend 4 Deep Purple, Ollie Magern 5 Tamarinbleu 6 Gwanako 10 Darkness 12 ChurchIsland 14 Just Amazing 16 Snoopy Loopy 33 Mr Robert 40 Canada Street

11 declared at the moment although no doubt there will be a few NR's. PN as warned punters already in regards to the fav. I can't see it being any worse than good ground because the forecast is set fair (well fair for this time of year;)) and the rain we had at the weekend was minimal so keep pumping Wetherby!

I'll be up there for the day, this for me is THE start of the jumps season I just hope we have a safe few days. My idea of the winner is Tamarinbleu but your opinions please:D

Seconded.

No runners have been declared yet, BlazingWalker. Those are the five day entries. So as it stands, there won't be non runners per se, but merely horses that have been entered but not declared which happens every day in every race.

Picky ain't yer?;) Yes, I understand, I was a bit hasty.

Yes,Rory, they are BET365,I just copied it from RP.

Ollie Magern and Tamarinbleu look massively favoured by the race conditions but neither are much of a betting proposition for me. Imagine I'll leave the race alone.

I think at current odds, and with the fact both Nicholls runners are far from certain to turn up, Saturday could well be the time to catch Tamarinbleu.

Considering giving Wetherby a blast tommorrow. Never been before, but would be nice to tick another off the list. Anyobdy else thinking of going?

Another poor renewal of this race. 5 runners, 3 with a chance, and only 1 that is remotely anywhere near a decent chaser.

A waste of prize money and it comes too soon in the calendar and too close to Cheltenham & Newbury feature meetings.

Cobblers.

The poor field is down to track conditions, and the alternatives at Haydock and Down Royal. It's proximity to the mackeson and hennessy meetings is not a relevant factor, and never has been.

I'm not convinced Tamarinbleu is a three-miler.

We're at the stage of the season when some are still prepping and some are targeting seriously. At least we know Ollie is always on the job in this race. He'd be my selection pretty much on that score.

That race at Ascot looks a minefield. The safe route is probably to trust in Nicholls/Walsh so Just Amazing for me.

Gone with Aimigayle in the big handicap chase - was impressed that she was able to win her last chase start at Newbury given the numerous mistakes she made and providing they can sort out her jumping she looks like the one for me, satisfactory prep run at Cheltenham a couple of weeks ago should have put her right too.

I agree with Desert Orchid. Ollie Magern is the one to be on. NTD also starting to hit some form and horses been running well of late.

I concur Luke could be a quick fire double for Brennan with Petitfour in the hurdle race.

Looking forward to finding out Imperial Commanders planned route this year.

Tamarinbleu has been beaten a total of 178L in his last three starts and he's not far off 2/1. I know he's getting a nice weight concession from most of the field but you'd like a horse with a bit of form surely. I'm a layer today.

What do we make of the likely pace scenario here? Both Ollie Magern and Deep Purple look fairly certain to at least try to make all today, whilst Tamarinbleu normally races prominently as well.

My first impression was that 3 miles around Wetherby might be on the sharp side for Snoopy Loopy, but the pace scenario might well play into his hands I reckon. The fact that he is appallingly treated at the weights is enough to put me off getting involved, however.

Having punted Ollie, I have to say I was fearing the worst after two fences. I never felt he was in a proper rhythm and he seemed to put in short ones every other fence. I kept hoping his stamina would see him through but in the end the energy expended on moderate jumping meant it was his stamina that gave out the most dramatically on the run-in. It was a shame for the horse as he gave his all once again. I wouldn't read too much into the form of this race.
