I've been trying to analyse the times of last Saturday's racing but have hit a problem.

A year or two back, the BHA had all NH courses re-measured and the updated accurate distances published along with an indication whether the start had been moved to accommodate the 'new' distances. I have a hard copy of that document to which I refer quite a lot.

However, the published race distances on Saturday's card bear no resemblance to the distances on the document, certainly not enough to allow meaningful analysis.

For example - and all races were run on the 'New' course - the opening juvenile hurdle was declared to be run over a distance of 2m 179y before the increase of 84y caused by rail movement. Yet the published distance for the course in the official document is 2m 140y.

I was hoping to contact the course to put the issue to the CoC but there is no contact email at the website. (Perhaps they cannot be arsed with enquiries from Joe Public.)

Does anyone have any information that would clear the matter up? It is an issue with every race on the regulation track on the day.

It's making time comparisons impossible, which makes me question Simon Rowlands's analysis too.

Hurdles were removed in the home straight later in the afternoon because of the low sun

Many thanks, DG.

The published amended distances above tie in with what's in the form book (published distance plus increase on the day) but it's the published distance that's causing the problem as it's different from the official distance and would therefore affect the time.

I'll contact SC. Thanks for the details.
