Cheltenham Festival Previews

Less than enamoured with the line-up for the official preview at the Cheltenham racecourse.

Rishi Persad

Alice Plunkett

David Williams of Ladbrokes

Patrick Mullins

Nicky Henderson

What on earth are we going to learn that we don't already know ?

Are you roving in the audience Rory ?

Nicky "sprinter sacre is quite good and will take all the beating,Oscar whiskey gets 4 miles and Darlan is better than Grandouet.....honest'

Highly unlikely. That's a truly dreadful line-up, with the inclusion of Williams, who was an embarrassment at the pre-Open Meeting event. He mentioned in a Paddy Power slot that Ladbrokes were 14/1 about Al Ferof, and when asked by an audience member if he could have a bet at that price, Williams simply slunk to the back of the room and sat down. No bets were laid.

Create you're own Cheltenham preview by getting 4 half wits in your local to randomly shout "Won't get up the hill', "spring horse"', "each way chance' and "banker".

Wherever you hold your Preview event, it is a Cheltenham tradition to charge £25 for a Minutesteak and large onion-ring, and to put on a two-piece Fiddly-Diddly-Dee band for afters.

I see from twitter that Rory is a guest on jp festival.com tomorrow night previewing cheltenham and weekends racing.Last weeks pundit had a 25/1 nap.no pressure at all Rory!

I tweeted a shorter version of this yesterday. I'm genuinely shocked by the reaction on Twitter. 30 odd propane have retweeted it. So how is it everyone gets the joke that previews are a joke but the gravey train continues?

Report from tonight's Cheltenham preview at the Goat, the panel being Paddy Mullins, Kevin O' Ryan, Daryl Jacob and Gary O' Brien, along with Paddy Power reps etc....the following is anything worth noting.

Supreme: Whole panel keen on Jezki to win. Reckon AP had run of the race the last day on MTOY, also worth noting that the Betfair was ran slower than the first two miles of the three miler later that day. Was a crawl and all agree MTOY is lay. Paddy thanks Un Atout is a three mile chaser and will be done for gears/speed. Paddy thinks Champagne Fever at 16/1 is an insult to the horse and a great EW bet. All agree Ruby will ride Champagne over Dodging Bullets who Daryl thinks could have EW chance....rest thin little chance.

Arkle: Simonsig all round bar Kevin who fancies Overturn at the prices. Even Paddy likes Simonsig, thinks Arvika may run too free/jumping may not hold up. Daryl doubts Fago's G1 potential, may not even run. Ruby probably on Arvika.

Champion Hurdle: Enjoyed this one. Panel agree in full that Fly the best since Istabraq, Paddy says he is twice the horse of any of these. Both Paddy and Kevin will show their arse if Fly loses. No one can even have Grandouet who is seen as potential only danger and panel in agreement.

Triumph: Paddy reckons this race is for poor flat horses and says forget it. Daryl says back Irish Saint at 20s, needs better ground and nothing between him and Far West. Kevin likes Our Conor for the Irish.

Neptune: Paddy says no doubt Pont is best horse in the race, slight doubt re track but reckons hard to beat. Kevin likes Rule the World EW. Daryl says Taquin de Seuil more of a staying chaser n the making. Unoriginal but panel side with Pont.

QMCC: No point in discussing they agree, Sacre wins....moving on..

Gold Cup: SDC the horse most favoured, Kevin and Paddy both very keen, Paddy says never gets respect deserved and will win. Kevin says was with Mouse earlier and 12s EW FL is buying money....which led me to ask the question at the end is FL not running in Ryanair...was advised to back NRNB haha which helps no one really....Mouse wants to run Golder but Michael possibly otherwise.

RSA: Dyanste fans all round, Paddy says couldn't tip Boston Bob as haven't been that happy with him at home all season, Back in Focus only runs if very soft ground. Aupcharlie headed Jewson. Daryl says Rocky Creek is his NAP for Hennessey 2013, stressed this a few times so worth note but not sure of Cheltenham target, unsure whether will run.

Bumper: Paddy was forced to make a choice between Clondaw Court who he says is a 3 mile chaser and Union Dues who is says is next years Supreme horse. He reluctantly picked Clondaw Court.

They've clearly pulled their timing from thin air, and it's wrong on so many levels, it's laughable.
Even disregarding that, it mightn't have been the fastest run hurdle ever, but there were just 3 horses on the bridle turning in (finished 1,2,3,) and the field was spread out all over Berkshire jumping the 2nd last, so any notion it wasn't a proper test (given the ground) has as much credence as their clocking.

Was 'The Laughing Policeman' playing in the background when they suggested Champagne Fever was each-way value at 16/1?
