I've had my eye on this fellow ever since he first went chasing:

Malinello - Cheltenham 5.30 Tuesday 100/1 ew, 45/1 5 places

I noted the gelding previously thus:

(1.35 Newcastle) 26/11/22 3m G/sft
Malinello was a good winner given how slowly the race was won. The breeding suggests marathon distances may well be the call and I'll certainly have him noted for the future. Importantly, he jumped like a good 'un. Only his 8th run under rules and 7yo.

Trainer Pauling is in good form and has a nice record with chasers on the course - 4-29 +£26.50.

Yes, I know he's way out in the prices but I just cannot let him go at the price. You can get 45/1 for the first 5 places, too.

Impossible, of course, but I've backed him nonethe less at both100/1 and 45/1 for 5 places.

Am I mad?

Probably but it's a done deal now.

I'm in mourning for Manilleno.

So, so sad. He'd jumped brilliantly but then fell and was fatally injured. Difficult to take in at the moment. Trgic.
