Cheltenham, The Showcase, 17/18 Oct

I hadn't planned to but if I thought I could get the over 55s bargain rail travel from Scotland I might!

I'm looking into it right now but I'm not sure if it's split across the nations...

Erm, I will be with my other half Roddy, is two asking too much ;) :)

Failing that would be pleased to meet somewhere else for a chat

If you want to come Saturday DG let me know . Plenty of tickets for Saturday plus we can have lunch in the O&T . plus coral have invited us to their box so plenty of options.

Wont come tomorrow now Roger as we are keeping the horses to Saturday. See you by the check in about 11.30 . We will be in the OT marquee Perpetual. Tel 07860293734 . Glad to have a drink with you if you are there Sat

Nice to start off with a winner. Pure Science is worth a go in the opener at 7/2. Backed him in a couple of bumpers last year and the weight he receives tomorrow and the distance of the race will help. As will his trainer's record at this meeting.

Rum And Butter's OR (145) is very high for a novice at this time of year and would probably see him in the first five of the betting for one of the festival races. Asking anything to better that is asking for trouble, I reckon.

Clondaw Draft last race form working out well - I'll take a chance on him in the first. I like Pure Science but this is his first time over hurdles in a competitive race so price too short for me.

3.15 Restless Harry at 22/1 price is too big for what he 's achieved over hurdles - 0ff 132and has been as high as 156 - chancing a small e/way

Thanks Roddy, but am only up for the Friday. Maybe catch up at the PP meeting

I fancy the 2 short ones (Rebel Fitz & Lac Fontana) and will also be having a few quid ew on Rockshandy in the amateurs chase

2.10 - Rum And Butter the one to beat and decent value at 3-1. I thought Pure Science looked a bit one-paced in bumpers and was flattered by his finishing position at The Festival. Saint Rogue the biggest danger to the selection.

2.40 - Third Intention ran some good races in defeat last season but may not be worth his BHA mark (151). Taquin Du Seuil looks a good prospect but may not be fully revved up for this. Rebel Fitz will probably win.

3.15 - Captain Sunshine has solid credentials but is a too skinny for me at 9-2. I was interested in Viking Blond but don't think he's any value either. Two overpriced ones (in my opinion) at about 16-1 are On The Bridge (not yet fully exposed) and forum favourite Up For An Oscar (may improve for step up to 3m).

3.50 - Twirling Magnet ran a shocker last time but has the best form and is decent value at about 6-1 to bounce back quickly. Sizing Symphony feared most.

4.25 - Not entirely convinced by Lac Fontana but can't find anything I want to oppose him with. Mystifiable (a nephew of my namesake) might be worth a small each-way at 50-1.

5.00 - River D'Or comes here fresh, on a good mark and with conditions to suit. I've back him at 25-1, but there are several others with chances in a very open race. Rockshandy (14-1) and Civil Disobedience (14-1) both look fairly good value to me.

5.30 - Not a very competitive race for the track and I thought First In The Queue had as good a chance as anything. I've also backed Canadian Diamond, on a hunch he might have been plotted up for this.

Good luck all.

saint roque gave rum & butter 7lbs and a 15l beating in may. we must be assuming major improvement or much better fitness to make him a similar price off levels.

Tizzard's Ultragold a chase winner at Auteuil, and is the wrong price on Big Blue (30+) in the Rymans.

Agree with that Grassy but had doubts about Tizzard wanting to win a novice with him given he's rated 125, a victory here would surely put him into the 140's and screw his handicap mark.

Got a great ride from the world's best jump jockey last time out to to get back up on the line but thought they'd have other plans with him.

Good luck :)
