Despite that I think Cheltenham is becoming an over-intrusive monster I’d better start paying proper attention and getting thoughts in order.

Firstly, though, I really must obey my rule this year to leave the handicaps well alone. Over the years I have simply found it well nigh impossible to sort them out and I reckon that even if you gave me a win for being in the first five I’d still be on the losing side. Probably because there’s always too many of my notebook horses competing against each other and too many “plot”* horses in the game. *plot being horses particularly targeted and set up for the race.

For the rest, I see only two complete standouts - Honeysuckle in the Champion hurdle and Allaho in the Ryanair.

Near standouts are Shishkin in the Champion Chase and Bob Olinger in the Turners (still in the Browns Advisory as well).

No surprise they are very short prices, although I think Shishkin’s is overdone. Can’t really see why he shouldn’t beat Energumene again, but I do not think it’s as clear cut as the relative prices suggest.

Anyway, I’ll mix those four up in multiples and snap up Allaho some more if I can as well as Honeysuckle if she comes back some.
