Chepstow 4.20

Harry Skelton took advantage of a stop start pace and the others didn't clock on until it was way too late. Nothing untoward happened.

If somebody wanted to pull that off, it wouldn't be attempted at a meeting that jumps buffs would all be watching. Furthermore, can you imagine the scale of the conspiracy? The beaten jockeys were;-

Barry Geraghty
Richard Johnson
Will Kennedy
Jason Maguire
Tom Scudamore
Sam Twiston-Davies

Within the realms of microscopic feasibility, I can accept you could get to one or maybe two with secret debt or blackmail problems. But all six? The amount it would cost to get to all six top-of-the-food-chain professionals would be astronomical and the winner certainly wouldn't have started at 12/1 (from a tissue 10/1).

If I have misinterpreted the insinuation of the OP then yeah.... Canny ride from Harry Skelton.

Duplicate

Which is just as well since I wanted to add that 4:20 would certainly be the time of day for any talk of conspiracy.

Don't mean there was anything dodgy, but dont you think the other jockeys should have been interviewed by the stewards, The start where they just walk forward and don't actually jump off is bad for racing, there's a lot of complaints on social media probably cos punters lost money, nonetheless something racing dosnt need just now.

Ah, fair enough.

I imagine (but am no means sure that) the stewards probably had a word with them as a matter of course and the jockeys said what I posted about pace, judgement and what have you.

Do agree that the new starting rule is completely uncalled for and an absolute overkill response to the Grand National start (which I'm sure some at the BHA believe is the only jumps race on the calender).

Yes I'm a bit p****d off having backed Dawalan. If he was going to get beat then would much rather it was in a proper race

Well, only the backers of Dawalan might have cause to feel miffed.

I'm sure some could be annoyed just as anybody could get a bit annoyed if something doesn't go one's way in life.

There will always be an element of fortune and circumstance in every race and this ought to be taken into account and factored into the price whenever placing a bet. Besides, every time someone backs a Dawalan that someone will eventually back a Bertimont within a long enough time frame.

Good ride from Skelton, not so good from the boys behind. Not so sure that Dawalan is the sort of horse you'd be getting stuck into betting wise, seems very lily livered.

Just been watching ATR forum. Having seen it again I reckon this was as bad as it gets.

Chapman - race was a disgrace

Alistair Down - biggest farce in last twenty years and BHA should ask stewards at Chepstow why they failed to investigate on behalf of punters

Big Mac - with exception of winner no punter had a run for their money

Chapman - Three runners at head of market had raced in the van or been close up in previous races when they won yet Geraghty raced wide and was stifling his mount on first bend and others made no effort to chase leader down the back.

Obviously people make mistakes in day to day jobs but what I find absolutely staggering is there was no stewards enquiry. I understand fully the rules surrounding reasons to do that but surely there has to be a extenuating circumstances provision to do this.
