1:15 Magistrato won this with any amount in hand and it’ll be interesting to watch developments.

1:50 Last term Allmankind came third in a pipe opener hurdle run before taking a chase a couple of weeks later. Looks like the same pattern being played out this time round.

2:25 It was a good run by the winner Chirico Vallis at 16/1 although he had been 40s earlier so not entirely unexpected. Although the rest were miles behind he couldn’t shake off Kitty’s Light who snapped at his heels like a terrier to go down in the end by a head. Should recover any losses, I think.

3:00 Only five runners in this (what is it with trainers who turn their noses up at £20,000 Class 1 races whilst sitting at home moaning about prize money), but Tea Clipper did well to run out a fairly comfortable winner on his first try over fences against more experienced opponents. Jumped well and it was a pretty impressive start for him. The only problem is that he needs decent ground so we might not see much of him if the weather turns nasty.

3:30 Inexperience won out over seasoned experience with Orbys Legend who confirmed the fine fettle of the Hobbs’ string at the moment.

4:00 Paint the Dream won this with some authority and the handicapper has not been unkind with a 5lb rise. Grand Sancy was disappointing, though.

4:40 Timeforatune cost quite a bit and duly delivered - with penalty - on his debut for Nicholls. Pretty tenacious, but not quite sure about him yet.
