Hi everyone, I'm a new member making my first post. I searched for horse racing forums online and found talkinghorses! I'm looking forward to browsing the forum, picking up knowledge and contributing.

My first post is about Chepstow Races, I would like to take my family to the Welsh Grand National. I've been before in the premium enclosure, but as I would like this to be my Christmas present, I'm looking at the more expensive tickets to make the day out extra special.

I'm looking at the hospitality tickets, but I would like to first ask if anyone has tried the Final Furlong Marquee? Does it really overlook the final furlong and can you remain in your seat while watching the racing with a good view? Personally, I enjoy being right up to the track, watching the racing up close, hearing the hoofs thundering against the turf, that's all part of the experience for me. My parents are oap's though, so the option of having a reserved seat to watch the racing would be ideal, so my parents can sit down for a rest and perhaps alternate between sitting down for some races and getting out to the paddock and the track for other races. However, I'm assuming as the marquee overlooks the final furlong, it'll involve climbing up stairs to get up there for the view?

I've also looked at the Guinness Reserve ticket, but to me, that seems no different to a normal premier enclosure ticket with an added table, seat, drinks and hog roast roll. I could just get a premier enclosure ticket and buy my own food and drinks, which will probably work out a very similar experience and cheaper overall. You also get a table and seat with the Guinness Reserve, but it's not in a track view location, so I'm dismissing this ticket option.

For hospitality ticket options, I don't want to go too overboard with cost, as I'm buying for several people, so I'm looking at the Trackside Marquee ticket. This seems similar to the Final Furlong Marquee ticket, but instead of getting an introductory drink, a tipster for the Welsh Grand National and welsh cakes with tea and coffee, you get a 3 course festive meal. It seems a lot of extra cost for this, so I'm thinking of just doing the Final Furlong Marquee at the moment.

However, I'm also very tempted to splash out with The View Restaurant hospitality. Has anyone tried this and is it worth it? You get a tipster for every race, which will hopefully improve my chances of getting a few winners to claw the expenditure back. It says you get a great view of the action, so can you remain on your table and watch the racing easily? I have no doubt the 3 course meal will be great as there's award winning chefs. It's expensive, but something I would be happy to splash out on for a one off experience for Christmas, but I need feedback to confirm it's definitely worth it.

That's my first post done. Thanks for reading and if anyone can advise, I would greatly appreciate your opinions.

Welcome Nijinsky.
My advice is come to Leopardstown, Early bird tickets with entry, racecard, meal voucher , bulmers or soft drink and 5 Euro betting voucher 45 daily or 40 for final day.
Cannot get better value for top racing anywhere else.

Hi Nijinsky and welcome! I know Chepstow well having grown up there. I think the Final Furlong marquee shouldn't involve steps and is more likely to be on ground level on the tarmac but in hospitality marquees. But bear in mind for that your ticket is restricted and you don't get to go in the premier enclosure. Its going to be heaving as it always is there.

I don't think either package is overly attractive to me. I'd personally be going for premier enclosure tickets only, getting there as early as possible (there are always queues, so I mean early!) and eating in the restaurant. No idea what the food in there is like - it used to be OK in the Owners and Trainers when I went but that was a while ago.

I think your best bet is to call the racecourse and talk it through with them explaining what you are looking for and what will best suit the needs of both you and your parents? The office will almost certainly get enquiries like this all the time (I do for point to points) and should be happy to work out the best solution.
As for tipsters - you don't need them now you've found this place!! Lots of winners on here.....some of us are pretty good! :cheerleader:

And now I've got your attention - enter the Ten to Follow - its free!!! And lots of fun too.
