The mighty champion Cirrus des Aigles has been retired.

At his best on soft ground a horse almost impossible to beat, he was a tremendous fighter.

He deserves a happy retirement.

That 2012 champion against Frankel was the run of his life.

His trainer has her idiosyncrasies but she did a good job with the horse.

He was campaigned openly against the best without fear, year in and year out. No mollycoddling.

As Timeform used to put it: most game, genuine and consistent.

One of the all time greats; not many horses have held his level of form through his career of nearly 70 races, most of them at top level.
