I heard this on Terry Wogan's show this morning and thought I'd share it with yous.
A woman asked Brendan Behan to define the difference bewteen poetry and prose. He said:
"There was a young man called Macphee
Who worked for Ackles & Pollocks*
He went for a walk in the sea
And the water came up to his knees.
Now that's prose, missus. Another few inches of water and it would have been poetry..."
(*I'm transcribing it from podcast as I can't find the quote on the Net.)
