Morning all, madam has made it known that she would like a coffee maker. She doesn't want the full works just a reliable machine that will provide a HOT frothy cappuccino.

I had a look around and found a John Lewis product that was recommended, sadly it's out of stock and not likely to be available in time for Christmas. That one retailed at 70 pounds, budget will stretch a bit further than that but I don't want to spend 200.

I've always managed with Nescafe instant so I'm totally ignorant of what is available. From what I've read it's a bit of a jungle out there so I will be extremely grateful for any and all input.

The rule of ‘spend more for better quality’ very-much applies to coffee machines, Col bach, but if you need nothing more than something that will make you filter coffee and steam some milk for you, you will be able to pick-up something fairly cheap.

This one might do the job for you:

If you’re after something that does it all in a oner, then you probably want a Nespresso (or similar). We have this one:

Good luck, and great to see you posting.

Good luck, Colin.

I'm a constant source of embarrassment to Mrs O when we pop in somewhere for a coffee (she really should know by now not to take me into these places but she really fancies her barra as a 'cofficionada'.

- What do you want?
- What have they got?
- Latte, americano, capuccino, espresso, macchiatto...
- What are those?
- Latte is ... (etc etc)
- Can I not just have tea??

I've been a cafetaire man forever. I buy a good bean and grind it fresh, warm milk, brown sugar and it more than meets my needs.
