During our, now, annual summer stay at Cwm Camlais renovating my Brother’s barn I take the opportunity to visit various markets in Wales trying out food I would never usually taste. In one supermarket (Newtown) I came across flat peaches. I can thoroughly recommend them – sweeter but less peachy taste. If you see them on a shelf, give them a try.

No. Krizon, they are very fresh, don't keep long and their stones are about th size of a cherry.
I enjoyed them so much I spent a good hour researching them:
1) they originate in China
2) the USA tried developing the fruit and the market but gave up, athough there are some enthusiatic growers still, and,
3) to get the best flavour they should be refrigerated frst.

Enjoy, I did - MR2

Was interested so Googled - pan tao in Chinese, or peento peach. As well as just 'Chinese Flat Peach'! Picture of them - they looked quite strange, a bit like a miniature whoopee cushion. Thanks for that, Monty - you adventurous soul! I'll hope to find some and try them out.
