Thursday 13/02/25 sees a cracking Hunterchase at Leicester “The Dick Saunders” some of the self professed experts on Hunterchasing will not see this post as I am on his DTM list which is much the same as the ignore button but with sinister undertones however I digress a better Hunterchase has not been seen for many a year and could be a good betting race.

I've been over and registered on your forum Gullible. Hunter Chases and and point to pointers hasn't ever been something I've paid any attention to but I've had my interest perked in it. One because I'm a bit disillusioned with the rest of the sport at the minute. The betting side of things doesn't interest me as much as it once did. Also the big meet crowds at races get less and less to my taste. I'm figuring it'd be nice to see racing at a grass root level and I really am going to try and take in a point to point meet before the season is up. Also thinking of going to the Cheltenham hunter chase meeting on the 2nd of May as I'm assured it's a quieter meet than the rest of theirs.

I've looked at your forum, I can't really contribute much at the moment as I know zero about the sport. The only guy I'd ever seen post about it was Martin ( Irish stamp on here possibly quevega on twitter rings a bell though I'm not on there) He seemed to understand it all very well and seemed a very shrewd judge.

I'll try and have a little look at this race and watch with interest.

I think you’d enjoy it if you went. It just is more accessible in that you’re not really confined like you are on a Rules racecourse plus you see emerging talent certainly in the jockeys ranks as it’s a much quieter environment for them to learn from their mistakes. For example, Rian Corcoran who will probably win the Novice title this year, we gave our Wessex rising star award to last year. Although he’s only 17, he rides like a pro in comparison. He had a spell over at Ballydoyle in the summer too, riding out amongst others, The Lion in Winter. But aware from the glare of publicity, he can make mistakes as anyone can at that age, and not get pulverised for it. Take last Saturday, he was riding one for David Pipe in Fighter Allen in the Open. Only one other opponent and it ended up a dead heat. Now he should have won but inexperience meant he was looking round and his mount just idled. He still won but I am sure his boss had a quiet word and he will learn from that. Had it been under Rules, he would have been slaughtered on social media.
Can’t remember whereabouts you are but happy to highlight best meeting near to you to go to.

Hi Danny I noticed and was pleased that you had joined.
I will tell you that PTP's are much more relaxed than rules racing however you do not get to find out the exact runners until 45 mins before the advertised racetime so it is possible to have very small fields and even walk overs !! I always go with an open mind and if the racing is poor still have a brilliant time with my mates.
It does not matter that you do not know much about the sport you can just go on and ask questions as there are a lot of people who will be more than willing to help you out.
My personal view on pointing and it's importance to NH racing in general is if the grass on your lawn dies !!!!......so does your lawn !!! and that is what Ithink would happen to NH racing should "Grassroots" PTP die !!
I have not been to a Cheltenham Hunterchase night but am told that it is a very relaxed and enjoyable evening. I have been to Stratford Hunterchase finals night twice in recent years (where Pointing Pointers sponsor the Restricted Final) and I usually stay the night and can confirm that it is a brilliant evening.

I went to Stratford for the first time last year which is bonkers as it's a fairly local course to me. I'm based not far from Walsall in the West Midlands I had a quick look for courses close to me I think North Stafford by Weston park somewhere was one I saw another near Melton Mowbray are there any you'd recommend that might be better than others near me to try for a first time venture. I might also have to borrow some friends as I have no real ones of my own. Perhaps I could invite Ian I'm sure that would get lively might have to notify him by carrier pigeon though ;)

Joking aside I'm genuinely interested and if anyone would recommend one locally or has spare friends to rent out I'd be more than interested in both.

( That might of read strange as I hadn't seen Jinnys post above that already offered to recommend one)

Quick question as I might just be being thick the first course for the midlands is Brocklesby which is by Grimsby who the devil thinks that's in the Midlands :eek2:

Guilsborough looks about my most local I can't seem to see the North Stafford one on there. Tbh I don't mind travelling apart form the fact another engine light appeared on my dash this morning it's starting to look like Blackpool in November. If I was picking the name of a place the caught my eye It was Kingston Blount and right by it on the map Kingston hill who was one of my favourite flat horses I'm guessing that's where he took his name from.

I did have a quick look through this race yesterday and not that I'd of bet in it but was going to give Givega a mention as Pawras's machine had flagged up Laura Morgan runners hitting form in February on another thread the day before and i just thought it coincidence that i should happen upon one of her runners in the first race ive looked at for a while. It did look a likely sort as it was up there on official ratings and had won it's latest point to point off the back of a long break and looked like one of few with decent recent form. Typically it looks like it's hosed up. I'd forgot about as I'd been out for lunch. I'll watch the replay in a bit.

Changed trainer 60 days before the race to Laura didn't it? Luca trained it for it's point to point win.

That's what racing post says anyway.

Sorry it's point to point was 60 days ago changed trainer on 7th of Feb do they have to do that just to run them under rules ?
