I watched this last night and thought it was brilliant. The best film I have seen in some time. Recommended to all.

I thought it was decent but no more. Its accolades - the oscars in particular - seem to be set against little competition in the film world at the time and the old chestnut of "tackling" sensitive social issues.

I certainly wouldn't put anyone off watching. I was just expecting a bit more.

Not really, it beat off hot favourite Brokeback Mountain, which certainly tackled sensitive social issues. After the nominations, it quickly became the obvious alternative for those who didn't want Brokeback Mountain to win.

Ah yes that other cinematic masterpiece Brokeback Mountain!

Looks like I am in the minority here, but I was just underwhelmed by it. Perhaps a symptom of reading/hearing too much about it before seeing it. Good but not great for me.

Troodles --  (A fine analysis fit for inclusion in Pseuds' Corner, Mr Capall.) And aren't books all the better for reading? :brows:

Just exhausted myself watching 'A Knight's Tale' (hilarious, with enough jousting to satisfy the most joust-starved) and 'Brazil' (Gilliam's Orwellian bureaucratci/Fascist nightmare, 21 years old and amazingly well in touch). Watched a lot of the Cronenberg 'Crash' previously, but didn't geddit. Having two films called 'Crash' is like having two horses called Book of Music - very confusing.

I liked A Knight's Tale too. Great fun.

Brian, I have only just got round to watching Crash.

Brian - :P (and no - I havent seen it!!)

Kri - thankyou - I thought it was maybe a little subtle....

I love A Knights Tale too :)

I went to see Hoodwinked last week - Its ok - a bit of a let down after the trailer being so funny, but still OK....

I thought it was a pile of fucking toss, with nothing to say that was particularly intelligent or that hadn't already been done by Sir Paul McCartney.

PDJ isn't talking about Cronenberg's "Crash" where people shag holes in missing limbs - he's talking about the Oscar winning one directed by Paul Haggis.

Me too.

At least the other one had Holly Hunter simulating a strum to liven it up.

Erm, just a wee point on anatomy there, Brian: how can you shag a hole in something that's missing? Isn't the missing part not there, that being one definition of 'missing', and therefore shagging a hole in it is an existentialist dysfunction of the emotionally bankrupt, blah, blah (entry form for Pseuds' Corner duly posted, etc.)?

So as it wasn't the legless shagging one, what has Sir P Mc got to do with it?

I shall be interested to see how " The History Boys" translates to the big screen - it was brilliant at the National Theatre but I can't quite see how easily it will adapt.
