Saw this article on the Sky News website & found it rather amusing that the government actually devoted time to considering it. Another example of PC gone mad, I reckon!

GOLDFISH BAN DROPPED

Plans to protect goldfish by outlawing the use of them as fairground prizes have been dropped by ministers.

The ban was due to be part of the Animal Welfare Bill amid concern that many fish are discarded and dumped when children who win them as prizes become bored.

But Environment Secretary Margaret Beckett bowed to pressure from ministers who feared it would lead to more accusations of the Government creating a nanny state.

The Bill will be changed, reported the Financial Times, in an attempt to reach a compromise.

It is due to allow children to take them away as prizes as long as they are accompanied by someone over the age of 16.

A spokeswoman for the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs said: "We have been widely consulting on the Bill.

"We have had a number of recommendations and we are working on parts of the Bill to take account of those consultations and recommendations."

Confirming changes to the proposed legislation, she added: "Obviously that is something ministers have been talking to each other about."

If a member tables an amendment to a bill, time has to be devoted to giving it consideration. I think that this particular one is silly too, but I also think that the way in which amendments can be proposed, often the result of a suggestion by the member's constituents is part of the democratic process.

Goldfish toing and froing in small bags, budgies confined to small cages, insects heaped one on top of another in small containers being sold for reptile food or fishing bait, cattle squashed into wagons - Auschwitz style - as they're taken to the death chambers, lobsters boiled alive, foxes torn limb from limb by hounds as their bloodthirsty masters look on.

Needless cruelty. The horror, the horror.

It wasn't meant to be funny.

Agree with you Tom and although I have an option, I get that feeling during a 12 hour flight in economy class.

Well, as HT doesn't make his betting thousands from chasers breaking their legs, or greyhounds confined to kennels, or use products derived from dead animals, etc., we have to give him his due in speaking sincerely from the heart.
