Without wishing to blow trumpets, the renovation of the Barn is on Channel 5 tonight at 21:00 - 'Build a life in the Country'.

I believe my Dad sat down with the film crew and reeled off every family anecdote, never heard my Mum swear before as she lost interest in life. The producer said she had enough for a new series.

I wondered which anecdote the producer would choose - racing car to burglar alarm! What my Dad failed to mention (or maybe hadn't realised)was that Dave had incorporated half of my racing car kit as well.

Hope you enjoyed watching it. Be warned that Dave has 'aged' these last few years and renovating a buildind on a micro budget is not for the feinght hearted.

He mentioned my 50th, thats the trip to Ffos LLas on the 28th August, tickets willing.

I watched it and thought you all came across really well. The kids were great and it was a pleasure to see them blossom in the countryside enjoying their pony and chickens. And as for your sister-in-law - Respect! Her carpentry skills are pretty darn good! My mum watched it as well and agreed with me.
Looking forward to your updates as well including pics!

It was marvellous viewing, Monty - I love your Dad's anecdote about the little racing car being turned into an alarm: "It was never a car again, was it?" Reproachfully, Mum: "NO."

What came across so strongly to me was the real warmth and affection between Dave and Caroline, and the three lovely girls, each with a very individual personality but apparently all meshing so well as a family. Loved scruffy wee Magic the pony - what pretty eyes he/she had. And the attempts by the adults to start riding - "Good girl - boy!" from Dave.

The place looks cracking and I was astounded at Caroline's skill with the electric drill - 10 rooms framed in just three weeks? Crikey! It was a very charming story all round of a smashing family all doing their bit to help as best they could, and I hope the whole family will be extremely happy forever in their Brecon home.

So... when do they start the holiday lets??

Glad you all enjoyed it.

For anyone interested, Dave has a complete pictorial record on davesbarn.com on the internet. Pat on the back for anyone spotting a picture of my son's reaction to 'get your arse into gear' -July/August 2008. The 2009 snowy pictures are worth looking at, too.

My wife and I will be there July 24th for 4 weeks hopefully getting the annexe most part completed and then returning as Dave 'announced' in late August for my 50th and racing at Ffos Llas.

My daughter wants to wear a dressy hat (this would be her first race meeting and her perception of racing may not be entirely accurate), so this trip is beginning to increase in cost already.

I'll be honest, but didn't know how you'd take it if I said so - but I thought so too, Monty! The way Mum and Dad sat, Dad getting animated at the remembrance of the little racing car, Mum nodding away, the long pause and then the marvellous killer lines! Perfect. Creature Comforts, or an Alan Bennett play - they could be stars!

Please do share with us the pictures when the annexe is completed, and definitely of you at Ffos Las on your Ffiftieth!
