As previously mentioned, I'm spending much of the summer at the above place, in beathtakingly beautiful Brecon. My brother is converting a barn and my family are acting as labourers to get the project moving on.

TV company was down a week last Friday filming for one of those 'building conversion' programmes. Dave, my brother, loves the limelight.

I managed to go an have look at Brecon Cricket club and was very much surprised, even envious, at the general sporting facilities they have here compared with up north.

Anyone know what Cwm Cam Lais means in English or is it a celtic secret?

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer as much as I am.

Cwm is a geographical feature, roughly equivilant to a corrie. I don't speak clan clinny clog myself, although I do know the odd word or two. Suggest you try Mr Phillips

A quick telephone conversation indicates that it's likely to be something to the effect of the 'the place in the mountain of the false voice'

Neither of my daughters are here at the moment but "Cwm" is normally a valley, "cam" has a number of meanings, according to our Welsh dictionary, step, wrong, crooked amongst them, "lais" doesn't appear in the dictionary, is that the right spelling?

Not sure it helps much, but a bit of Googling suggests that it might be Camlais (all one word), hence valley of the Camlais, which might be a tributary of the river Usk?

What was the TV show Monty?

Correct, one word - Cwm Camlais.

Any geologists on this site:

Out walking, I found an unusual rock.

Imagine a hard shiny black rod size of your thumb and covered in a thin layer of pinkish limestone - any ideas or pointers to where I might look to find out what it might be.

Googling has led me to 'Obsidian' a ype of volcanic glass, a pretty good description but nowhere have I read about 'fingers of obsidian.

Gareth, I think its called 'Build another life in the country' - Channel 5. It was interesting watching how a programme like this is planned and created and how the producer is always looking for angles to raise tension. I'll tell you more later.

Post e-mail to all:
I'm spending another week here in Cwm Camlais, building a partition wall, while the real craftsmen are constructing an arc for a window. Summer hols coming to an end but hoping for a bit of snorkel diving at the weekend if weather improves.

Hope everyone is in the same relaxed mood - MR2

Three years from outset, the TV Programme is to be transmitted on Channel 5 at 21:00 on 22nd June. I have requested that any bits of me swearing should be removed so don't know how much of me you will watch.

The trailer was shown last night but not seen it yet.

From what I hear the producer is very happy with the outcome. (Bits to watch include when my son, Michael, diss's his 'Grandma's stew' and interviews with Dave, Cas and my Dad).

(Appearing are: My Brother, Sister-in-law, three Nieces, my Dad, my Mum (her stew), My three children, my Wife and Myself)

If you get the chance, enjoy theprogramme - MR2
