I'm looking forward to hearing what people think about the races this week.

I've watched Trilby in his most recent races, and he's entered in the five furlong handicap on Thursday. He was really unlucky first time out at Doncaster, where he just never had a chance to get going. Next time out he won well at Beverley, where he saw some daylight.

Then his last run over six furlongs, he didn't see the distance out in class 2 company out aswell as the ones in front, including the winner, Completely Random, who I think could be a Wokingham horse to watch out for as we get nearer to Royal Ascot. The Charlton horse is on a steep upward curve since the gelding operation by the looks of it.

Anyway, back to Trilby.

Five furlongs looks to be his best trip. I think he should be able to mix it up in class 2 events. But he'll need to put in a career best, as he'll be up against some tried and tested performers higher up the weights.

What a time to be alive, I tell thee. 😎

He's fav now but I took 13/2 about the Balding trained Gallant in the 4.18. He was a staying on 4th in a very hot 6f handicap at the Craven meeting. I've also got 33/1 about Smoken for the Oaks so would like a good run from her in the Musidora and lastly on Wed I can't believe I'm contemplating Korker again in the 2.42 but the 7lb claimer booking means he's off 96 effectively and he's double figures. Can ignore his AW runs.

No real opinions on the rest of the week until DECS I guess.

I've backed Marahaba the Champ in the first race on Wednesday. Excellent course form on good to firm ground. Got 12s boosted with Ladbrokes.
I have also backed Marhaba the Champ. He has a liking for fast ground and York and has twice done me a favour here before. I’m hoping they haven’t gone overboard watering. One note of caution, is that his 2 previous wins here were in the hands of Ryan Moore and William Buick. On Wednesday Rowan Scott has been booked. He is OK and has a decent strike rate for Kevin Ryan, but it may suggest he isn’t yet fully ready.

In the 2.42, my eye was drawn to Ramazan, who has dropped to a very attractive mark of 97. He prefers a softer surface, so I’m thinking and hoping Wednesday isn’t the day. However, I think he is one for a big handicap later in the season when the ground eases and is in my tracker.

An intriguing runner in the 5.25 is Masakela. I’m sure his owners had high hopes for him after he finished 4th behind Desert Crown in the 2022 Derby. He did show signs of ability in other races in his 3 and 4 year old career, including at this meeting 2 years ago off 102. Bought by the Easterby’s in Oct 23, he has run some decent enough races to make me think he could go well here off only 68. Tim Easterby is having an unusually productive spring and this might be the time to follow this one at 25/1 last time I looked. He’s in my tracker too now and I’ll be keeping an eye on him on Wednesday.

Concur with your thoughts on Masekela.

I am on the knavesmire on Wednesday here are my initial thoughts:
R1 Marhaba the Champ acts on good to firm running off a mark of 86 last winning mark was 91.
R2 Commanche Falls 8yos have won three of the last four running only 8yo in the race.
R3 Rage of Bamby could spring a surprise at decent odds running of same mark as last win.
R4 Smoken given a good mention in trainers stable tour.
R5 Rare Change won well latest start given a great ride by Hector Crouch who retains the ride.
R6 Utmost Respect horses on debut have won three of the last four runnings.
Richard Fahey won the race last year.
R7 Two at the bottom of the handicap Saratoga Gold and Masekela could both outrun their odds.

Wednesday

2.10 See Hector could certainly be given a chance at the weights on Meydan form, but for whatever reason, his trainer's horses sometimes do rather better over there than they do over here.

2.42 We Never Stop gave me a Happy Easter last time out, but the tailwind helped. Old Commanche Falls is 5lb lower than when 1.25l third over CD last August and the low draw again may assist.

3.13 Flora Of Bermuda is best with cut and, unless she gets it, rather boringly the jolly Insherin may be the one to beat.

3.45 Absolute minefield, but I like Smoken's pedigree and, though he's probably more right wing than Liz Truss, I do think the trainer is on his way to being the best in the country.

4.18 Ryan Moore is a nice booking for Jolly Roger, whose yard know how to get one in on a winning mark on handicap debut.

4.55 Frio was 3l third in a contest run in half-decent time at Musselburgh and though the winner disappointed at Ascot the runner up won as it pleased at Ripon.

5.25 I wanted Great Bedwyn for the dollars at Glorious Goodwood last year, but he was dropped right out to get the 1m6f and was only third. I'm not sure he stays that well tbh and 1m4f on the Knavesmire back down to just 3lb higher than he won off at Newbury (1m4f) might be just the ticket.

I reserve the right to completely change my mind once I see the stick reading on the day and again when I see the time of the first race. 😂

Pedantry alert, do you know this race goes off at 2.42, Ian? 🤣

For what it's worth, I can't rule out the chance of Rousing Encore. Sixth in a Coventry as a two year old, so rated 102 at the end of that season. He didn't set the world on fire in 2023, but then switched stables to Ruth Carr, who I think generally does well with other trainers cast offs. There were signs of a revival with this horse, particularly at the end of last season, and given he's been way too keen to do himself justice recently, he's ran quite well. He gets a three pound pull at the weights with Change Sings too, so that must help. If they've blown off enough cob webs, he can put in a bold show.

Kieran Shoemark will bid to put his French 1,000 Guineas heartbreak behind him as he searches for big-race glory for the Gosdens on Go Go Boots in Wednesday's Tattersalls Musidora Stakes (3.45) at York.

Shoemark endured a dramatic last week when John Gosden said his yard will use the "best available rider" in the wake of Field Of Gold's 2,000 Guineas defeat. He then had Classic victory taken away from him by the stewards in Sunday's Poule d'Essai des Pouliches, when the Charlie Fellowes-trained Shes Perfect was demoted to second.

However, he could score for the Gosdens aboard Go Go Boots in the 1m2½f Group 3, in which she will face five rivals. She is currently a 33-1 chance for the Oaks next month, behind 3-1 favourite Desert Flower.

Ralph Beckett will be double-handed in the race, including with the unbeaten Smoken, who makes her seasonal reappearance after winning the Listed Montrose Stakes last season. The trainer is also represented by Tattycoram.

Last year's winning trainer Andrew Balding saddles impressive Newbury maiden winner Serenity Prayer, who is not entered in the Oaks. The field is completed by the Aidan O'Brien-trained Whirl and Miss Tonnerre for Ed Walker.

Love this track and this meeting.
Will start with Max Mayhem in the 1.50 .on Wednesday (25/1 4pl sportsbook).
Ran OK from a bad draw at Kempton, and draw & track kinder on the day.

Judged on the weight of money and the booking of Ryan Moore, Inisherin is look]ng home and hosed in the Duke Of York.

Maktoum’s other one Elite Status might give him a run according to Karl Burke “He did a really nice piece of work on Friday so I'm really hopeful ahead of the Duke Of York this week as track and ground will suit him well.”

hear what you're saying BJ, but it looks as the wnd-op has restored Inisherin to his former glory. trust RM.

Trainer says (Inisherin)

He was absolutely electric at Haydock and Ascot last year, having had a lot of racing thrown at him in a short space of time. He is still a young horse, who went from a novice to a Guineas to a Group 1 sprint. He didn’t run too badly at Newmarket, as he didn’t quite handle coming down the hill, and then the ground at Haydock was very tacky - there were legitimate excuses for his runs, but he is a lot more mature now. He has done well physically and goes for the Duke Of York, and then for horses like him his season is very much mapped out for him.

A lovely meeing for future winners.

I'm intrigued by the 2.42 sprint and could fancy three against the field:

Commanche Falls ew
Two Tribes ew
Bergerac Ew

My idea of the comb f/cst, tricast

But no bets for me; just a toe in the water to see what I fancy, see how they run and watch the race for winners to come.

Well done with Rousing Encore. I read your post and I always give Ruth Carr’s a consideration at Yorkshire tracks. Had a little on it, so thanks for the alert.

Hopefully someone else out there was on!
