I may kick myself for ignoring the handicaps, but I’ve got trackers in opposition anyway.

Supreme - I can’t believe Facile Vega has suddenly lost his class, so I’ve forgiven his last run, but I can’t resist having a little on High Definition who has flat top class and must be well thought of to be tossed into this with so little experience. Be a tough ask, though.

Arkle - can’t desert Jonbon although danger lurks round every corner. He’s the only one given CH half a race and he has taken to fences very well. Still think he’s the one to beat.

Champion Hurdle - I’ve got three tickets for Constitution Hill and loaded up - it’ll be really painful if he doesn’t win, but I don’t think anything but misfortune can stop him.

Mares - difficult to sort out any of those fancied with any confidence, but I’ll have a little on her ladyship on her swansong.

Challenge Cup - I think Gaillard Du Mesnil is one of the bankers of the meeting, but it’s a skinny price. I’ve taken some evens and counted myself lucky.

Well, that wasn’t to be sneezed at. CH has paid for the week, her ladyship (hope she has a lovely retirement) and GDM obliged, although I’m glad I didn’t have to find out whether he would catch Mahler Mission who was 5 lengths ahead when he fell late on.

FV stumbled at the last, but he was beaten by the better horse and HD flattered early to deceive when things got serious. J, too, had no excuses and was beaten by the better horse.
