Well, that was a feeble day 2. One winner and a few places stopped the wolf getting right in, but he was over the threshhold.
1. Midnight Affair (Got to Love a Grey)
2. Crystal Caprice (Tarrabb)
3. Prosperous Voyage (Jumbly)
4. Luxembourg (Adyar)
5. Awaal (Intellogent)
6. Gregory (St Vincent’s Garden)
7. Maximum Impact
(You will notice I did manage a 23rd out of 23 in the last )
On to the next:
2:30 Norfolk Stakes
Been really impressed by ELITE STATUS and I think he’s a good one. Something might jump out of the woodwork, but they will have to be very special to take him. I hate it with a Wesley Ward runner - AMERICAN RASCAL - in the race another 2yo that looks like a 3yo I expect.
3:05 King George V Stakes
BERTINELLI won a highly competitive London Cup last time, despite looking as though he was still learning the job, where he finished strongly off a slowish pace. This race will be run very differently, but I think he will be thereabouts at the end. PERFUSE has been brought along patiently for this (haven’t they all, I suppose) and wouldn’t come as a surprise to be up there as well.
3:40 Ribblesdale Stakes
I believe AL ASIFAH will prove to be one of the greats and I really can’t see anything giving her a race. She has a CONSTITUTION HILL style, just lopes along and goes off like a rocket when given an inch of rein. Not looking at another in this and will lump it all on her despite the price. Not a fun bet this one.
4:20 Gold Cup
Charlie Johnston reckons he’s got SUBJECTIVIST back to near his best, if he’s right he can take this with ease. Otherwise, I think a repeat dose from COLTRANE is on the cards.
5:00 Britannia Stakes
Horrible race, I have absolutely no idea. I’ll just go each way on the French horse BLESS for as many places as I can get.
5:35 Hampton Court Stakes
I quite like the look of BOLD ACT in this but much depends on whether BERTINELLI has endorsed the form of his second place earlier on. Otherwise the Gosden pair look like fighting it out, although CAERNARFON ran a very good third in the Oaks and is hopefully none the worse for it.
6:10 Buckingham Palace Stakes
It looks to me as if RHOSCOLYN is being prepared for a big one - is this it? Maybe, maybe not (already down to 12/1 from 20/1 atm). From a form point of view I thought MONTASSIB had more under the bonnet when he won at Newmarket last time.
