With thanks to Stav over on Final Furlong for this long overdue, definitive guide to the beautiful 'City of Discovery'. I found the sections on food and drink to be really helpful and sooooo appetizing - Ardross, you'll love 'em! View and enjoy here:

The historical section on 'Oor Wullie', with its insight into the fascinating local lingo, is a must for the discerning traveller.

Isn't Oor Wullie just the story of Scottish Siamese twins?

I believe Oor Wullie and The Broons were set up Victoria Street, in the Watson Street area.

The characters in those strips are so like people I've met, it's uncanny.

The Dundee accent, less common than it used to be, is something else.

Des. Orc. - ya wee wug! ;) I couldn't understand more than the Nordic imports in that section. :shy: I'm not sure what a 'buckie' is, but there've been enough references to 'pished' on this forum to make me think some folk will explain it! And I had heard of stovies, though from Glaswegians - I take it they're the 'weegies'?

In 1950s BBCish: "End what a vair eenteresting peek into one of Great Britain's historic cities thet was. Next week, we'll be looking around Aberdeen. The city has many fessinating old traditions, such as Sassenach-roasting, which sounds like jolly good fun."
