"The State Within"

BBC1, Part 1 of 6, 9.00 till 10.00 this evening. If you are out, then set the DVD recorder or the VCR. If you are one of those people who claims never to watch the BBC, then make an exception in this instance.

Do not miss it.

It's about the condition of your intestines, Spoons, with friendly bacteria fighting the unfriendly ones... oh, no, sorry, wrong programme! I'm sure Brian will explain. It's a US conspiratorial/political/thriller series...

The only USA involvement is in the plot. It's a BBC made series with Canadian broadcasting partners. It'll be shown in the USA on a BBC cable channel. With one highly notable exception the American characters are played by canadian actors. The exception is Sharon Gless as the US Secretary of State - and what a part it is.

A Holywood one-line script pitch would probably be "24 meets the West Wing".

It's an intelligent drama - I repeat, do not miss it.

Trinny and Susannah thrown into a cage of tigers .

No , nearly as classy Pete Burns Cosmetic Surgery Nightmares

By 9pm GMT I will be well on my way to oblivion - night on the vodka in the best Argentinian steakhouse around....paradise!!

Sounds just the sort of stuff I hate.

Try C4 at the same time instead - one-off play about Hogarth which looks promising.

Oh, thanks for the reminder re the Sopranos - I keep forgetting they're tucked away off the main five channels! ;)

Good grief!! I just discovered that the little knurly thing on the mouse scrolls!! :o After all these years....

On the same time as the snooker. Just watched a recording. I reckon I might watch it again before next week. Fast moving stuff.

Jesus, Brian. I am putting you up for Pompous Pedant of the Year, and you'll win hands down. I don't normally look up the production or funding of programmes when I'm asked 'what is it?' - the bloody thing is SET in America, and it contains key actors who are American, so it's shorthand for that.

Next time I'll be sure to note that the director is Korean but living in Denmark, the funding is through the World Bank, the animal wrangler's Australian but the animals come from Thailand, the best boy's a gay Tahitian who lives with his Chilean lover in Los Angeles, and that the main actor's mother is Irish.

I sure am glad I put my cock back last Saturday night. The sexual content was not to my taste.

I couldn't take the lead actor very seriously . I kept expecting him to say I will get you Harry Potter .

OK, it's too, too much - I can't resist, even though I know Warbler will recruit Brian and get him to pay for a cyber hit man....

It's 'Hollywood' ...... :P

Joke, people, joke....

Seriously, Brian was quite correct - a pretty good drama, although I found the British Ambassador less than believable - surely a little too young for such a prestigious posting?

Sharon Gless looks to be excellent in her role

I missed it too, I had rather more pressing matters to attend to - namely bife de lomo Patagonia cooked to perfection....

Jon, here's another amazing tip for you. Press the "little knurly bit" down in the middle of the screen and a little circle with an up and a down arrow appears. You then just place the mouse higher, or lower than it to scroll up or down the screen. Press it again to remove. B)

Good programme. I thought Sharon Gless was very good, her performance looked influenced by Glenn Close`s in the fifth series of The Shield.

Gotta admire (presumably) straight actors tongueing each other, i couldn`t do it.

It was a mistake to get into it though as i`ll be at work next week and can`t pre-record as The Sopranos takes priority.
