That one friend who likes racing but backs at least 6 per race and then sends you a text saying “winnner....28-1!”

They’re a good friend (and a really nice person and it’s fun to swop tips) and I’m happy that they’re enjoying the racing but this constant crowing (invariably after the race) is starting to wear thin....especially as I’m having a very Flat time of it right now......and I know they back quite a few horses per race.....

Rant over!

There’s more than a few people on here like that from what I remember [emoji38][emoji6]

I could back ever horse in a race and still not win, so the people I’ve got like that I just smile and tell them well done - it’s a bit like people who get excited to win with odds on shots, if they’re happy that’s what matters - the fact that I think they are daft is my problem, not theirs [emoji854][emoji854]

I’m the best aftertimer there is!

And and I am genuinely pleased...but it’s just annoyed me today as I’m having a rubbish run.

If it’s any help, I feel similar about a lady who is in the wordle group I’m in on Facebook - she clearly gets the answer before she posts because I don’t believe that ANYONE could get it in one as many times as she does, I think she’s only missed once in three months or so - it annoys me, but she clearly feels happier for it, so grown up me leaves her alone and likes each one. Bless her.
( says me who did make a comment to And about it a few weeks ago, but I’d never upset the lady herself, life’s too short)

I have no issues with backing several in a race so long as I think each one I'm backing is longer than it should be and that if one wins I'll be ahead on the race even if I'm only doubling my money.

I have no issues with aftertiming either.

Good luck to her.

I always remind myself of the time me and the other half treated ourselves to the restaurant at Aintree at an Old Roan meeting. I spent hours on the card and picked 1 winner… happy I was! My missus spent 5 minutes before each race had 6 bets and 6 winners. There was lots of after timing and gloating going on after that! Easy game…..

My daughter got the placepot up At Cheltenham one meeting - she was 3. I now defer to her for anything important [emoji1787]

Not addressing the original question but some friends & I went to York, late 80's. We met up to study the form & agreed on our picks for the afternoon. Confident that it was going to be a "steak for tea" day & we all backed one in the Dante which was never sighted. Off we trudged back to the coach at the end of racing for a dissection of where it all went wrong. A few moments later our ladies arrived back at the coach. They had clearly been celebrating so we enquired and were informed that they had all backed Environment Friend (won the Dante @ 20/1). A chorus of amazement sounded out - "how on earth did you find that one?" was the cry............

Oh, we all liked the jockey's pretty hat:mad::mad::mad:

A few years back I had spent a couple of hours in the bookies and had lost a bit more than I had intended on the evening meetings.

Calling in the local for a couple of pints on the way home, imagine how I felt when one of the regulars asked me to work out his 25p Lucky 31 for him. I can't remember exact details now but it came to over £500 and the bugger didn't buy me a beer!

I was 'A face" for several years and my best friend and I pulled off 9 out of 10 strokes in one season.

The biggest was at Ayr when the bookies asked me to take cheques so they could continue laying for the rest of the day.

That took 2 years of planning and only 3 people knew until we had to tell them......even the trainer on paper never knew it was off.

It was in his name but never in his yard and my friend trained it himself and he would work it when the gallops were empty.

I wasn't told until the day before and the horse hacked up by 5 lengths.

Word got out and suddenly everyone was my best friend had a mount.

I wouldn't have been his friend for long if I told them what I knew.

You can get a jockey into big trouble very quickly by mouthing so unless he tells u himself don't believe anyone chances are they are making up stories

2006 Prix de l'Arc , Deep Impact was 1/10 on the tote so every other horse was 20/1 plus .
An eight horse field how could you lose ?
By leaving the winner out, that's how !
I wouldn't mind but we were sitting beside Willie Robinson who told us not to leave him out as the Juddmonte people he knew had very positive vibes...

I never saw the race before I must have gone on holiday or something.

Those that took the 1/10 on the tote must have thought "well that was easy money" when he hit the front cruising.

The winner paid 25/1 on the tote according to the commentator.

Jockey in my experience are not good tipsters unless they are riding a horse....

Ruby and AP are classic examples

There were 6,000 or so Japanese in Longchamp that day, I never saw the like of it before.
They bet Deep Impact to nothing; the pari-mutuel promoted a 5,000,000 tierce with multilingual pamphlets on the Arc result but the Japanese had only one bet in mind.
Funnily enough on our walk to the races my mate Paddy and I met one of the few Japanese in Paris who never heard of Deep Impact .
About that time Yutaka Take rode a Shergar Cup winner for Tony Martin; had the translator been more switched on to punting it could have made for a most interesting relationship..

More on topic my mate the late Mike Doody used bring a client racing to The Curragh.
The gent had a habit of punching Mike on the arm when he backed a winner; he could easily have half any field covered but the punch on the arm p222ed Mike off no end to the extent he refused to bring him anymore.

When the world's number 1 (IMO) jockey gives you a tip in front of the whole country you should listen. Having won the first race at Ballarat Australia Jamie Kah was being thanked at the end of the interview and the guy said should I put a cross on the ground here and you smiled and said yeah wait here I'll be back soon...her mount gambled from 4.33 inyo fav duly won and she was back standing on the cross..after another interview she smiled the guy looked down at the ground and said I will see you soon
Her mount openened up evens and was hammered and like her 2 previous mounts never looked like being beaten..in all her 3 races never at any point was she not in a perfect position..Her next mount wasn't expected to be so short but the bookies must be crapping themselves with a 4 timer andi mllions of Aussie $ at stake they have put her in at 6/4....All she said was it has a chance..fingers crossed she can pull off a 4 timers...as big Arnie said I,'ll be back

well I won't need to worry about funding my account for quite some time.
..once again she was in the perfect position throughout gave another perfect ride and Won never in danger...can anyone remember when was the last time our top flat jo keys rode 4 consecutive winners on the same day...

One or two of ours have gone through the card in their time.

Very few and far between, though.

Frankie at Ascot might be the most recent but Carson rode eight or nine in a row; the last on one card, through the card the next day and the first the following day.

I think that might be a record.

So many jockeys are female in Australia ( I’m loath to call them lady jockeys - they are just jockeys!!) and SO many good ones. They get really good rides and it’s really nice to see them supported - genuinely if you’re good enough the rides will come.

They will if your name is not Bryony Frost.

Well yes - the UK is very different though, even allowing for the fact that we all know why Briony is being ostracized these days.
