Does Anyone Remember This Film?

Because I take an interest in film, I have been asked by someone whether I can identify a black and white film that featured an Englishman who escaped from the Nazis and hid out in a rabbit or fox hole after having been tortured and having his fingernails pulled out. I don't know this film, does anyone?
 
Not necessarily a ful blooded film- but try Rogue Male starring Peter O'Toole. I remember it because it was from a book of the same name written by Geoffrey Household and possibly the first thriller I ever read. The character has a black cat he calls 'Asmedeath' which I always considered a superb name for a black pet.
 
Thanks both. The original (1941 version) starred Walter Pigeon and was called "Man Hunt", while Peter O'Toole was in the 1976 TV movie called "Rogue Male" after the book.
