Well, it was a crappy first day. Bit of place money for Utilis eased the pain a bit, but couldn’t resist the temptation for Equilateral more’s the pity and the less said about Impulsive Reaction the better. Neither of those two escaped the notice of the stewards:
Race 5 - 4:10pm
THE CAZOO SCARBROUGH STAKES (CLASS 1) (Listed Race)
Permission was given for EQUILATERAL and KING OF STARS (IRE) to go early to post and for UNION COURT to wear a red hood to post.
The performance of EQUILATERAL which finished unplaced, was considered. Kieran Shoemark reported that the gelding hung slightly right-handed. The representative of Charles Hills could offer no explanation for EQUILATERAL's performance, other than the gelding may have been unsuited by the Good, Good to Soft going, which in his opinion had raced dead on this occasion. EQUILATERAL was routine tested.
Race 6 - 4:45pm
THE VERTEM NURSERY HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 4)
The performance of IMPULSIVE REACTION (IRE) which finished unplaced, was considered. Tim Easterby’s explanation that the colt had ran too freely on this occasion was noted. The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of IMPULSIVE REACTION (IRE) failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Nothing for Day 2 (probably just as well ). I did have two from the notebook, but both in the same race and both trained by the Johnstons. I wouldn’t put it past them to win with the long priced one. I’ll stand aside.
2:35 - Dance in the Grass 10/11 atm, and Ferrari Queen 10/1 atm
