Doncaster - Day whatever

Seems a bit treasonable to be chatting horse racing at this sad time. I am going in on The Platinum Queen in the Queen’s honour and I dare say she will start even shorter than the current 13/8 since she seems such an appropriate bet. No Nostrum on the card for tomorrow, which is a shame, but saves agonising over the price.

2:35 - The Platinum Queen ran a blinder for a 2yo against older horses in the Nunthorpe and she should be hard to beat back against her own age group. A skinny price - 13/8 atm - particularly since she’s raced on nothing but good to firm going, although Fahey thinks it’ll be ok if it doesn’t get worse than Wednesday’s. I’ve taken it, though. - neeeeearly held on

2:45 - he’s got his ground and I can’t see anything troubling Trueshan and at 1/3 atm neither can the bookies. Unbackable for me at that. - that’s why they are unbackable

3:20 - I’m fed up giving Sacred another chance and I’m going to duck her this time even though I still think she’s a lot better than she’s been running lately. Bound to win now, I guess, but it will be without me. NR that’s a relief

3:55 - can’t see much to bother New London unless Haskoy is as progressive as is being reported. Frankie an interesting booking, though. Another that is just a watch, but could be tempted if there’s significant market moves. - wasn’t tempted I’m glad to say

4:30 - and so to Gisburn. Very much proving a hero to zero horse and should have a squiggle next to his rating. There is bit of a pattern to it, though, with his best performances coming with plenty of soft in the ground and he doesn’t seem to like to hear his hooves rattle on the firm. From the way he has been running I thought he’d be suited by a stiff 7f and this first try at 1 m may fit the bill. If the ground is right I’ll have at little ew. 16/1 atm. - …..and zero once more

Well, that’s it - what a load of old rubbish which is about par for this meeting for me. Don’t know why I persist year after year. Ah! A gin and tonic is helping.
