Didn't see a thread for this.

Just wanted to give a mention to Secret Witness in the Portland.

I brought to the attention the fact of his record (when running at a week or under) to this forums attention a while back when he won at York. Same again on Saturday after running a few days ago.

Basically all the horses good runs have been when running at a week or under.

Not in great form, and will have to defy the hanicapper but he did me a good turn a few months ago and is a big price E/W at 40's.

I can't see a clear cut winner so looking for a big priced one E/W seems reasonable.

Now that connections have accepted Masked Marvel isn't going to make a 12f horse, he gets his first real stamina test since winning the Leger.
As a gp1 winner without a penalty, on his favoured ground, and sporting the first-time blinkers his stable has used so successfully in the past, he really ought to be too good for these.

Hasn't trained on - that was a killer of a Leger on such firm ground last year. Appears to have bottomed the horse good and proper .

Secret Witness's record at a week or under since beginning of racing career.

12022230165221240

Makes him a good chance e/w imo.

Will have a saver on Barnet Fair for a bit of cover.

You may well be right, Ardross; certainly ran abysmally.
Another of similar ilk today is Starspangledbanner, mutiple gp1 winner against horses with few pretensions to the top level, yet available at 6/1 on the strength of his re-introduction; after 2 years off, and on the wrong ground.

I was very impressed by Toronado today - very good ride by Hughes but the horse just kept lengthening .

Strong Suit looks gone sadly - a specalist 7f horse fed up with being mucked about over 6f and a mile. It seems a very long time ago since he thrashed Chaichamaidee in the Challenge .

Terrific finishes to the last two races and the Portland .

Donny as a racecourse however is wrecked - too few seats , a grandstand that is like a conference exhibition hall used for occasional racing , very expensive poor food and a crowd that it seemed only about 10% were interested in the racing 90% were only interested in getting pissed.
