This is going to sound incredibly stupid but...

How do i go about transferring music from my CDs to my mobile phone? I've been wondering for long enough if my phone can double as an MP3 player-thingy but kept forgetting to find out. I checked the phone today and it's got a 'Music Player' on the menu so i'm assuming that might be it?

The CD-changer in the car has been donald-ducked for months and months so I've only had the radio and nearly all the stations are sh1te. The car has bluetooth with connectivity with my phone so I'm presuming if I can get my CDs on to my phone I'll be able to play them via the bluetooth.

The phone is three or four years old, a Samsung, black/brown with gold trim. Not sure of the model.

Also, how do I go about finding what system my laptop uses? The camera on my phone was compatible with my desktop (XP), which I got rid of a couple of months back, but not with the laptop (which is three or four years old too) - a Dell Inspiron.

mp3 is a file format which will allow you to listen to them on your phone

you will need to convert the cd to this mp3 format

use the site or program which EC1 provided and hit the convert button

Can I take this one step at a time (with apologies for my obtuseness)?

1. I take it I need to load my CD(s) on to my laptop? (This I can do!!)
2. Or can I just insert the CD into the CD tray and deal with it from there?

I need to check foobar (which I've never heard of).

Thanks and sorry.

I've found the instruction booklet for the phone (Samsung SGH-U600). It says I should use the Samsung PC Studio to download music from my computer but there's the rub: PC Studio isn't compatible with my laptop's operating sytem...

This all came about today because I saw an offer in the local O2 shop. £8.50 per month for a Windows phone with 500 minutes, 500mb data & 500 texts per month. It made me realise I could probably do a lot more with my own phone if I wasn't as computer illiterate but maybe I'd be as well just getting a whole new phone.

When I switch the laptop on I see a 'Windows 7 Home Premium' logo. I presume that's it?

My PC was Windows XP.

cool. Right click on the pc studio icon on your desktop, select Properties. On the tab marked Compatibility, tick the box to run in compatibility mode, choose XP from the dropdown menu that appears.

PC Studio will now think it is running in XP and will work fine on your laptop.

Bob's yer aunty.

:confused::confused:

I don't have PC Studio on my desktop. I'm not sure I ever did? I phoned Samsung a couple of years back to ask why I was having difficulty downloading photographs from my phone on to my laptop and they said it was because it couldn't be done via W7 as it had come out after the phone was developed.

I think I might even have thrown out the PC Studio software with the PC :o

(I've edited the previous message. I keep confusing the idea of a desktop computer and the desktop screen.)

DO - have you got a memory card for your phone? If not - get one (probably be a micro SD card). You can then get an adaptor to plug the card into your laptop (it may have a memory card slot in the laptop already).

Then put the CD in the laptop. Open 'my computer' which should show the drives - C Drive will usually be your hard drive from teh laptop, you'll see the CD come up as E: drive usually and then you should see the memory card slot as well. If you click on the CD it should bring up the music files. Simply drag the songs you want on to the memory card drive. You can then remove the CD and put the next one in and repeat.

Once done - put your memory card into your phone and go to the music folder - you should find all the songs in there.

Hopefully...
