I would have got ripped into anyone who said there was a horse who would turn out to be as good as Sprinter Sacre just round the corner.

However hand on my heart, absolutely everything points to Douvan being as good as Sprinter Sacre at the Arkle stages of their careers.

Sprinter Sacre was even more impressive in his Arkle win than he was in his QMCC win.

The way he simply sauntered away from the others from 4 out and the time he took to cover from there to the winning line made him look unbeatable which he turned out to be until his illness.

I was so impressed by Douvan I thought I'd run a check and see how long he took to cover the same distance.

2012 GOING: GOOD (Good to soft in places; watered; 7.3);

2016 GOING: GOOD TO SOFT (Soft in places; 7.0)

The advantage being slightly in Sprinter Sacre's favour

Overall time Sprinter Sacre 3.58.1 Douvan 3.48.6= Douvan

Douvan just under a second faster

From the 4th last

Sprint Dou
0.72 0.67
0.29 0.34
0.08 0.08
0.17 0.16

1.26 1.25

The contrast in times between the 4th last and 3rd last and the 3rd last and 2nd last
prove both horses have one helluva turn of foot and there may not be as much between them as one might think.

Personally if Douvan stays sound I reckon he he could outdo Sprinter Sacre and break the 200 Timeform barrier.

Difficult to fault a horse with a very good record, in good hands and with phisical scope

what he has shown so far in the course is nothing special, he is better than Sizing John and does things in style,
yesterday posted a career best performance in my figures , 162p

I dont think he is as good hurdler or novice chaser as was Un Des Sceuax.

About comparations with Sprinter Sacre, I rate Sprinter a stone higher as a novice, other league.

Long way to travell to be a Moscow Flyer, Azerty, Master Minded, Well chief.....

Fair comment and to each his own but I am willing to stand up and be shot at if I am wrong..

I don't think as a novice there's 1 lb between hin and SS and if it came to a fight Douvan would have won

BTW if you rate Sprinter Sacre (Arkle) a stone higher then you rate Douvan 155

I was referring to Douvan and Sprinter Sacre the Arkle winners what are you referring to?

Here is his full brother

Douvan out in the Clonmel Oil today

Lovely looking race

Wonder has he been hard trained like they did with Faugheen a few years back and may blow us away with a performance today before the fear of bouncing next time out or is it the slow approach with a plan to somehow get him to March

was backed like they had him ready for it and a pretty easy win all in all. couple of sketchy jumps though.

Willie:
"Paul thought he idled in front but was very happy getting off him, I was very happy and visually what I saw I liked. It didn't look that he needed to go up in trip, I would have thought to come back in trip.
"To me he looks to have a lot of the speed that he had before.
"I imagine Christmas will be fine (for his next run) and I'm happy to have him here today and to finish well and we'll have to see how he comes out of the race over the next few days.
"Chacun Pour Soi has to run yet and I'm not making any plans but am delighted he put in that performance today. I wouldn't be looking for three miles after that performance and what he showed me today was he is more at home at a shorter trip."

Just watched the replay, and while he was - inevitably - rusty at a few, he left little doubt he was far too good for this modest opposition.
Class will out; despite all his setbacks.
