My old PC had a CD-RW but Laptop has a DVD-RW can I still use the blank CD-R's I bought or do I need to buy blank DVD-R'S? its for storing photo's, do they hold the same amount of storage? I think the CD's I have are 700MB

Yes you can still burn data/music/whatever onto the CD R s as long as you select using CD when in the burn programme (Nero, Roxio or whatever). :)

as for storage the standard DVD will hold up to 4.7GB of data!! One word of advice if using to produce dvds to play on a DVD player (not one on your computer) you best advised to use DVD-R disks (work on more players than the +R disks).

1000MB = 1GB

Oh one other thing that might catch you out. The DVD-RW on your lap top will rec/play cds however your PC CD-Rom drive will not read the DVDs..

hope this of help
:)

Thanks to both of you!

Am I right in thinking the DVD-R is the one you can't record over? probably better for me so I don't wipe anything :shy:

I will only be using it to store photo's from my camera, the CD-R holds 70MB not 700MB as I said earlier! so the DVD sounds a better option thay buying CD-R's

Yes the DVD-R is non rewrite (unless you allow multi session recording when setting up the burning which will allow you to add additional files at a later date). It wont however allow you over write only add to the disk.

make sure it is minus R (-R) seems to be the more user friendly!

:D

ah now I need to be able to add more photo's at a later date, I just don't want to write over the old ones, I am still getting to grips with Vista!
