I thought I'd seek advice from the E-Bayers out there. I'm planning to buy a load of stuff from one buyer (all very cheap lots, with nothing costing more than two quid). Unfortunately, the postage is going to be something like fifteen times the cost if calculated individually on each item, although the seller offered a discount on multiple purchases. It appears that the discount offered is only around 10%, and I can't believe that it will cost as much as £40 quid to send half a dozen or so hardback books plus a few smaller items. Perhaps I'm being unreasonable, but I reckon I'm saving the buyer the hassle of separate packing and postage costs if these were bought by individual buyers. Advice appreciated.

It's the postage he'll be making the money on rory. You sometimes see what look like bargains at buy it now prices where the postage is something like £40 which, in reality, will be a couple of quid. They hope to suck in buyers with the bargain buy it now price.

Not only E-BAY I think this is crazy it does stop me buying most things having to pay post and packaging on top of any items I purchase .....Cant these people see this if they added the charge into the original price I reckon they would sell far more???? thats for sure.................

If I buy something lumpy I always pay cash for ALL of my stuff if they say there's a delivery charge I cancel it right away, and take my business elswhere, the profit margin on some of this stuff is excessive to say the least, then they want YOU!! to pay to have it delivered......................fingers to them!!

This postage thing is a big issue on ebay. Some ebay sellers get ruffled if questions are asked about postage combinations. Check his/her feedback Rory and if all is well, ask again about the postage. If he/she is a new to ebay, it could be that they haven't done their homework on postage.

It may also be worth noting that Royal Mail changed their postage pricing policy at the end of last year. Offhand, can't quite remember how they changed it but you should maybe check their website.

Sellers on Ebay pay commission on the selling price of the item, but not on any postage cost. This is why they sell the stuff so cheap and make their profit on the postage.

postage price doesn't bother me, I look at something and decide what I want to pay, if including postage it's higher then I don't bid, simple as that :)

At the end of the day if something is buy it now at 1p with £50 postage, and I would be prepared to pay £50.01 for it then it doesn't bother me, if they listed it at £49 + £1 it would cost more in fees, so I would expect the price to be more like £53 + £1 postage, so everyone wins (except ebay of course!)

I would guess that "each to their own" applies here. I am not overly fond of my nose, so would be quite happy to refuse to bid for something where the postage is excessive, even if I did want it.

I can't think of very many things I'd be buying from ebay that I really, really, really want.
