I wonder if any of the forum's superb techies could help me out here, please? A friend of mine said that, when I got my laptop, she'd take me off the outdated ntl e-mail and put me onto what she uses, AOL. She fiddled about for a while and then said she'd done it. However, I still get emails going into Outlook Express's Inbox and Sent sections as well as under AOL. I'm a bit fed up with this duplication, but my chum doesn't know how to get shot of it. Could anyone think of how I can, please? (These sort of weirdies aren't covered in XP for Dummies!)

Big thanks in advance for any help.

In Outlook Express something like

Tools > Accounts > Mail and then remove the account that is listed.

But that's from memory. Someone with OE can probably tell you exactly.

I must say I don't like it much, Bets, but I'm also hacked off with this blasted Samsung recon from a laptop shop. It sticks all the time (hangs frequently) and it keeps jumping on mostly the letter 'e', which seems to me to point to a couple of problems they should've sorted out before they flogged it to me. I'll try what you've suggested. It can't get much worse... can it??

Weird and weirderer... AOL's the only mail a/c on there, so it's a mystery!

Migrate to Yahoo or GMail.
Both web-based, don't bother with OE, just use your browser.

Good luck ... this rings a bell? .... as the actress said to the bishop.

I don't know how to migrate to anything, Soary, and I'm trying not to bother with OE, which is why I'm trying to get rid of it! I don't appear to have a problem with AOL, but the way my friend has set things up. Another trip to the laptop shop coming up, I think, once the festival of over-indulgence is over.

My friend has used it for years and recommended it to me (I was still using ntl, which is even more ancient), but I will probably change again after Christmas, New Year, the house move, the move out again for January and February, the renovations... it might be March until I'm sorted out!

Presumably AOL provide your Internet, so they will have given you an email address, something like "Arsovatit@AOL.com", all Outlook Express will do is collect the emails from this address. If you just check your emails using the AOL Mail page and ignore Outlook Express altogether it won't be a problem.
I presume that you only have one address, and that you have changed it to an AOL one, if you change your Internet Provider again you will have to change it again.
I use several web based addresses, both Yahoo and Hotmail and the original idea was to use certain addresses for certain uses, IE, one for friends, one for purchases etc, didn't work out quite the way I planned it though!

Aha! I've not been using the AOL mail page, Walsy, so that's probably the snag solved! Yes, only one address now - I disabled the NTL one as that was 'catching' old emails and somehow sending them on to AOL and I thought, stuff it, I can't cope with all that shuffling about. Okay, back to AOL mail page only, then, and see how that goes! Ta!
