News breaking at the moment is that an earthquake has hit INdonesia measuring 8.2 on the Richter Scale, triggering Tsunami warnings. Here is the story as reported on Sky News -

EARTHQUAKE HITS INDONESIA

An earthquake measuring 8.2 has hit Indonesia - 880 miles north west of the country's capital Jakarta.

The earthquake is reported to have triggered tsunami warnings.

The quake struck in the sea off the coast of Sumatra about 1609 GMT, according to the US Geological Survey.

A USGS spokeswoman said it hit 125 miles northwest off Sibolga, Sumatra.

It was close to where a nine magnitude quake triggered a devastating Tsunami in Asia on Boxing Day which left about 300,000 people dead or missing.

USGS Spokesman Don Blakeman said: "Certainly evacuations should be occuring, I hope they are."

He said any tsunamis should not be as widespread as during the December tragedy.

Just turned over to sky news and seen it too Dom. The people in the region must be absolutely panic stricken.

I've been following it periodically on the news for a couple of hours. The added problem is that it struck in what was the middle of the night.

So far it seems not to have been accompanied by a tsunami. I pray it stays that way.

It does appear that the tsunami threat was in this case, a false alarm, thankfully.
